Chris Paul will re-sign with LAC if they acquire Doc and KG; trade talks heating up
When Celtics head coach Doc Rivers became publicly uncertain of his future in Boston, the Clippers were promptly linked to him as a team that would take interest if he hit the open market. If you look back to the most recent NBA trade deadline, there was speculation that Celtics forward Kevin Garnett would be traded to the Clippers. Those two assets - Rivers and Garnett - now headline a potential trade that is said to be close to happening.
With this trade, the Clippers would acquire one of the league's premier coaches in Rivers, as well as one of the game's all-time great vocal leaders in Garnett. According to Yahoo Sports, this trade would make Chris Paul happy enough to re-sign with the Clippers, which would relieve a ton of stress for the team's front office with free agency just a few weeks away (July 1).
The Celtics are said to have put a halt to their heavy pursuit of Eric Bledsoe, who the Clippers were very reluctant to give up. Rather, they will now include either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee in the deal, as they both have undesirable contracts. It looks like the Celtics will be receiving DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick if the deal goes through.
Garnett would step into the starting center role for the Clippers, which was occupied by Jordan last season, and the Celtics would get some good pieces, as well as free up some money, to build for their future.
In related news, it has been reported by CSN New England that Lawrence Frank, who coached the Detroit Pistons last season, could take over as the Celtics' head coach if Rivers is traded to the Clippers.
