I remember the 94-95 UCLA team quite well. It featured a ton of future NBA busts, including the O'Bannon brothers, Tyus Edney, and Toby Bailey. But despite the fact that they all sucked in the NBA, that UCLA squad was one dominant college team. They spent most of that season as #1 team and rode into March Madness as the overwhelming favorite. They of course went on to win the tournament, but in their second round game they nearly went down.
Luckily, Edney stepped up and delivered a coast-to-coast game winning layup - and saved my bracket. UCLA may have won a hell of a lot of championships, but people in LA talk about this one more than any of them because of Edney's amazing play.
I remember being in my car coming home from a day of shooting hippos at Disney. The radio call was spectacular Chris Roberts and Marques Johnson would have made Gus Johnson proud.
That team was a fun team with King Charles and Prince Edward O'Bannon, sadly their pro careers experienced regicide. Toby Bailey who could jump out of the gym, but his talent jumped out him and he never developed. Tyus got some time in the NBA, not much. The guy on that team that had the most NBA run was George Zedik (which Dan Gadzurick was the Beta version of). The team was actually saved one more time in this tourney. Edney could not go for the Championship game, tried but came out very quickly. I am trying to remember how it hurt it, maybe got it too close to Big Country in the Semis. So in stepped Cameron Dollar, who did not have an NBA career himself, but may be back in the spotlight. He is Romar's assistant at Washington and he appears to be an up and coming coaching prospect. Okay that is probably more than any of you cared to know.
