Blog Photo - Clay Matthews (Hamstring) Could Miss a Couple of WeeksAfter being forced from Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to a hamstring injury, Green Bay Packers' linebacker Clay Matthews is now facing the possibility of missing a couple of weeks. Head coach Mike McCarthy said after the game that "a couple of weeks" is the early diagnosis, while Matthews, who has a history of hamstring injuries, says his current ailment is not as bad as it has been in the past.

The absence of Matthews, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three NFL seasons, will obviously be a big blow to the Packers' defense. After being ranked dead last in total defense last season, the Packers are ranked 13th this year, and Matthews is perhaps the biggest reason why. Matthews is sixth on the team in tackles, while leading the team in sacks and forced fumbles. His nine sacks are good for second most in the NFL.

The injury comes at a good time for the Packers, who have a bye next week. They'll need their best pass rusher immediately after the bye, however, as they'll be facing Matthew Stafford and Eli Manning on the road the following two weeks.

With DJ Smith and Desmond Bishop already on the injured reserve, and Nick Perry nursing a knee injury that has held him out the past three weeks, the Packers' linebacking core will be one of the league's most depleted units if Matthews misses time.
