Clay Matthews is starting to get a bit of a reputation, thanks to plays like this one when he hit Colin Kaepernick way out of bounds in the Packers' week 1 loss to the 49ers.
Matthews insists that he's not a dirty player, though. In fact, he says it's just the contrary.
Oh, well I'm glad we cleared that up, Clay.
He's definitely at least a little bit correct. He's a pretty awesome player, even if he's the only awesome player on the entire Packers defense.
That having been said, he's still a dirty player. That play on Kaepernick happened extremely late, and there was no reason for him to go overboard like that. Matthews was almost out of bounds himself when he left his feet, and Kaepernick was clearly already out of bounds when Matthews started to make the hit.
The NFL has been focusing on safety lately, and Matthews is going to have to work on keeping under control just a bit more if he wants to keep Roger Goodell's hands out of his wallet.
