Clayton Kershaw's Curveball Is the Spring Training Hotness
by CriticalFanatic

In my book, a beautiful 12:6 curveball only trails a crispy executed back door pass (preferably done by two unathletic white guys) as the most aesthetically pleasing sports plays.

There's one curveball that has the Grapefruit league abuzz this week and that's 19-year-old Clayton Kershaw of the Dodger Blue.

Joe Torre gave him a shot on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox and as you can tell from the video above, he's quite nasty. Kershaw dispatched Mike Lowell, J.D. Drew and Sean Casey with just 10 pitches and compliments this huge curve with a 97-mph fastball.

As a result, there's talk of him actually making the Dodgers roster as the fifth starter. Torre wasn't even considering that option before Sunday, but now he's joined the Spring Training camp for good. He even went so far as to compare him to a pretty good pitcher from the franchises history.
"There was a left-handed pitcher in this organization with only a fastball and curve and he was pretty good," said Torre. "But I don't want to put that kind of pressure on him. He's not too far away from the changeup. He's got it; it's a matter of locating it."
More importantly, what does Vin Scully think of this young arm? The commentary above should speak for itself.

He'll be having Tommy John surgery in 6 months probably.

Dusty Baker sees you, and raises you to 4 months if given the opportunity.

LOL Dusty would be having him throw 130 pitches in a split squad game!

Agreed on the Tommy John front.  Stupid to have him throwing this junk in March.  Vin Scully wears diapers.

He's 19? God, I hope the Dodgers don't rush him.  He might have big league stuff right now, but I'm almost certain his arm can't take a big league season.

I guess he turns 20 in a couple weeks, FWIW. No way they should give him the job, but then again it didn't used to be so uncommon for guys to throw this young a while ago.

Hopefully he comes up for a spot start here and there.

Jason Schmidt's arm is certainly impressed.

Hopefully, Torre(and his pitching coach) are smarter than that; I remember when Liriano came up to the Twins in '06, and didn't last the year before needing TJ surgery.  I'd hate to see someone that talented flame out ala(insert your favorite pitcher here).

Insert your favorite Cub here.

The one thing I like about Kershaw, and this is after seeing a grand total of 3 of his pitches, is that his delivery appears much more fluid than Liriano. That dude had shoulder/elbow problems written all over it.

My knees buckled just watching that.

Now since we are talking about Dusty Baker, when the Reds play the Pads, will Prior try to bean Dusty in the dugout for the damage done?
