After yet another terrible season, the Cleveland Browns are starting fresh, firing both head coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert. In 2 seasons with the Browns, Shurmur has a 9-23 record.
Heckert had a chance to really turn around the franchise this past year, with both the 3rd and 22nd overall picks in the draft.
He took Trent Richardson with the 3rd overall pick, and that wasn't a bad pick, per se. Richardson had a solid year.
However, it's possible that they could have improved much more if they had waited and grabbed someone like Alfred Morris, and took a better player at #3.
The real problem was drafting QB Brandon Weeden at #22.
Weeden won the starting job from day one, but he hasn't been all that great. In a year when several rookie quarterbacks flourished, Weeden simply wasn't one of them.
The Browns have been bad for a long time now, and desperately need to make some huge changes. It looks like that's what they're doing, and it should be interesting to see where they go.
