Mandatory Credit: Andrew Weber-USA TODAY SportsThey drafted Johnny Manziel in the first round of the NFL Draft, but it looks like the Cleveland Browns are desperate to show that they're still committed to Brian Hoyer, who was their best QB last year, albeit for only 3 games.

According to ESPN, the Browns are looking to sign Hoyer to an extension, since his contract expires at the end of this coming season.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine also told reporters earlier this month that Hoyer was "securely ahead" of Manziel in the starting QB competition.

Perhaps it's a ploy to motivate Manziel, whom many believe to be the better QB, especially long-term.

Hoyer has been a career backup, and the Browns are trying to make him a starter based on a few good games. Still, they drafted Manziel, so they know that they need an improvement, and it's safe to say that they believe in Manziel's potential.

Time will tell whether or not Hoyer is legitimately going to be the starter. But it seems like Manziel is the answer, and the Browns know it too, no matter how they try to make it seem.
