NBA Triple Threat: Your daily roundup of last night's action in the Association.Cleveland 110 Denver 99 LeBron James is one of the best, if not the best, players in the NBA today. For some reason though, Carmelo Anthony has his number. The Nuggets had beaten the Cavs 5 straight times but tonight LeBron and the Cavs put an end to that streak. LeBron had 22 points, 11 assists, and 8 rebounds, but it was offseason acquisition Mo Williams who led the way with 24 points as Cleveland shot their best percentage all season. In a back and forth game, it was while LeBron was on the bench that the Cavs went on an 8-0 run early in the 4th quarter, including a Mo Williams three pointer to give the Cavs the 12 point lead and put Denver away for good. Chauncey Billups scored a season high 26 as the Nuggets lost for the first time since aquiring him, while Carmelo added 18 points as he falls to 8-3 against his good buddy LeBron.
Detroit 107 Golden St. 102 Rasheed Wallace was having one of those game early in the 4th quarter. First he tipped it in the wrong basket and then followed that up by missing two free throws at the other end, including air balling the first. Well it was Sheed who stepped up when Detroit needed buckets the most. Sheed hit two huge three pointers late in the 4th that gave the Pistons the win, who improve to 2-2 with Allen Iverson. Sheed had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Rip Hamilton led the way with 24 and Iverson added 23, 0 in the 4th quarter though. Golden St. fought hard, and looked to have the game in control before Sheed's two big three's. All five Warrior starters scored in double figures, led by Andris Biedrins and C.J. Watson who had 17 a piece. Biedrins added 19 rebounds to his 17 points, and in the processes had his 16th straight game with double digit rebounds, a franchise record. The Pistons improve to 6-2 with a huge match up in LA Friday night against the unbeaten Lakers.
Chicago 98 Dallas 91 The Mavericks continue to suck this season. They jumped out to a 24-5 lead six minutes into the first quarter to then be out scored 93-67 the rest of the way. Ben Gordon scored a season high 35 points while Derrick Rose showed that the learning curve for rookie point guards might not be as steep as some might think. Rose continued his improved play with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and not a single turnover. This offense is taylor made for Rose and he is starting to settle into a groove that shows why he was the number 1 pick this past season. The Mavericks continue to struggle. Dallas shot only 36% and 14 turnovers that led to 15 Chicago points. The Mavericks have now lost four straight and their 2-6 start is Dallas' worst since its 1-8 opening to the 1998-99 lockout-shortened season. This season though, Mark Cuban has no one to blame but himself. After making the trade for Jason Kidd and firing Avery Johnson, this season is on Cuban's head and it is not getting off to a great start.
Best Lines (Number 1 pick edition)
- LeBron James: 22 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals
- Derrick Rose: 16 points on 7-17 shooting, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 0 turnovers
- Allen Iverson: 23 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals
Tell me if you have seen this one before. Joey Crawford overracting and throwing a player out. Well Kenyon Martin ran into Joey Crawford tonight, and Joey was having none of it. Crawford had no problem challenging Tim Duncan to a fight (allegidly), but when K-Mart goes nuts about getting tossed, Crawford steer's clear of him.
Now it's your turn, share your thoughts on tonight's NBA action.
