Cliff Lee has been outstanding all year for the Indians. Last night was no different, as he gave up only 2 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 10 and walking none. However, the Indians' bullpen isn't so spectacular. Indians "Closer" (and I use that term loosely, here) Masa Kobayashi made it interesting in the 9th, giving up 2 runs without recording a single out. Lee improved his record to 14-2, as the Indians beat the Twins 5-4. Rafael Perez stopped the bleeding and picked up the save, after taking over for Kobayashi.Twins OF Carlos Gomez suffered a lower back injury in the first inning. He slammed into the outfield wall while catching a sacrifice fly, and did not get up. He was taken off the field in a stretcher, on a cart. He was taken to the hospital for tests, which were all negative. He was reportedly back in the clubhouse after the game, and walking.
Jair Jurrjens was brilliant on the mound, and Brian McCann provided more than enough offense with one swing of the bat, as the Braves beat the Phillies 8-2. Jurrjens gave up only 3 hits in 8 shutout innings, with 6 K's and 1 walk. McCann was 2-3, with 2 HR 5 RBI's. One was a solo HR in the 4th, and the other was a grand slam in the 9th.
The Rangers' lineup was operating on all cylinders, as every single batter in their lineup had at least one hit, in a 14-6 victory over the Athletics. Josh Hamilton, David Murphy and Chris Davis all homered for the Rangers. Alan Embree and Andrew Brown each gave up 4 runs in the 9th to let the game get completely out of reach.
