It looks like the Clippers are still building a team that they think can beat the Lakers, let alone the NBA. This is done in their special "Clipper" way though, meaning they want a good, competitive team, but they aren't involved in any of the flashy options for the big free agents. However, they are making moves to get better.
Last week, the Clips were notified that both Jamal Crawford and Chauncey Billups wanted to come play for the team.
Crawford is going to sign a four-year,$21.7 million contract and Billups, who was injured most of last season, is going to sign a $4.3 million deal for one year, with bonuses.
Crawford is a huge get for the team. He adds height and skill. Last season, he averaged 13.9 points.
One thing the Clippers need to look out for with these big deals (Crawford is 32-years-old and now has a fairly sizable, long contract) is that they aren't getting a ton of young talent to surround Blake Griffin with. Nick Young, while not as skilled as Crawford, played well with the team last year and could have learned along side the winners like Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Crawford and Billups are definitely great pick-ups for the team, they just need to be wary of long contracts, especially when they don't have a GM making the deals right now.
