Blog Photo - Clippers Reach Deal for Doc RiversAfter a week of wrangling, the Clippers have finally gotten their man, agreeing to a trade with the Boston Celtics for coach Doc Rivers, pending league approval. The Celtics will receive an unprotected 2015 first round pick. Rivers has agreed to a 3 year, $21 million deal with the Clippers. After all the negotiating involves players such as Kevin Garnett and Eric Bledsoe, it ended up being a much simpler swap.

While Rivers is not a perfect coach (I'll leave his specific strengths and weaknesses to those who know more about the NBA), no one doubts that he is a significant upgrade from Vinny Del Negro. The question in the immediate term is will Rivers be enough to convince Chris Paul to stay in LA. Reports were that Paul was not happy with how the trade talks were going when it looked like the deal was dead. Now that a deal has been reached, we'll see how Paul reacts. If he stays, it'll be Rivers's job to get this talented team farther into the playoffs than they could under Del Negro.

For the Celtics, this will probably be seen as the first move of a rebuilding process, but for now, note that Garnett was not traded. He's still on the roster, as are Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. We'll see how Boston constructs their roster over the summer, and who they hire to replace Rivers. That decision could show what direction the Celtics are planning on going with.

He needs to go into retirement. He reaped the benefits of a solid team. He's a crapfest.

..and that's not my b**ton hate talking.

It says the Celtics are stuck with Rondo who is a punk to coach. Doc said to himself... hmmm work for Sterling who is an idiot with a talented team that has a chance to do something, or coach an ***hat kid on a rebuilding team that's not going anywhere anytime soon.
