According to a report by Sports Illustrated released earlier today, Mathieu received improper benefits at a nightclub outside the school campus during his stay on the team.
"Since last January, Mathieu has allowed his image to be used on a flyer-promoting ad event at a local night club, appeared in several promotional videos online and, multiple sources told SI, received benefits at the club that could affect his eligibility."
If these accusations come to be true — and it looks like they will — Mathieu would likely be ineligible for the remainder of this season with a good possibility of the entire 2013 season.
This would end his hopes of returning to the team and obviously has huge implications on his already-diminished draft stock.
As a sophomore, Mathieu recorded six forced fumbles, four touchdowns and two interceptions, becoming just the third defensive player in 17 years to have a seat saved in New York as a Heisman finalist.
