According to The Associated Press, conference commissioner Bob Bowlsby is seeking permission from the NCAA to retrieve the title game back, despite not having the necessary about of members required to do so.
Conferences with less than 12 members do not qualify to hold a championship game. When Texas A&M, Nebraska, Colorado and Missouri departed last year, it left the Big 12 with 10 schools (including the additions of TCU and West Virginia).
Oklahoma was left out of a BCS bowl for the Mid-American Conference’s Northern Illinois – a non-AQ program. Had there been a Big 12 clash between Kansas State and Oklahoma for the conference title, perhaps things would have played out differently.
