This is why I love college football. A seemingly nondescript weekend, which much bigger games looming next week turns into an upset filled Saturday. We touched on the first BIG TWELVE!! shocker but the day was just getting started.
Kansas State 41, Texas 21
You think the Longhorns and Sooners were just a little excited about next weekend's Red River Shootout? Ron Prince was clearly hired because he had some secret information about Texas. His Wildcats have looked like a Top 10 power in the last two meetings and average in all others. What do these two upsets say for the Big 12 -- very competitive and better than predicted or overrated?
Auburn 20, Florida 17
Doesn't it seem like the Tigers are always involved in last-second FG victories and losses? Last night they were involved in two, Wes Bynum hit 'em both. Another case of overlooking today's opponent for tomorrow's. Florida was hoping next Saturday's game at LSU would be for National Title implications and it still will, but only for the Tigers. Hey, maybe we won't have a Tim Tebow feature on GameDay next Saturday.
California 31, Oregon 24
That DeSean Jackson kid is pretty good, huh? 11 catches for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns later, his Bears have snuck into the thick of the BCS championship. Unfortunate play to end the game as the Ducks were headed for a touchdown, and Cameron Colvin lost the football through the end zone. We might have been witness to a 7 round overtime had Oregon scored. Both teams proved to be Top 10 material and I might be inclined to actually move BOTH up in my rankings.
Maryland 34, Rutgers 24
Least surprising upset, one in which I picked. You can look like a good football team picking on inferior opponents. Big East is anybody's guess. Rutgers' 10-game winning streak was snapped, and it could be the start of a long losing streak with Cincy, South Florida and West Virginia on the horizon.
Georgia Tech 13, Clemson 3
There's the Yellow Jacket defense. GT held James Davis and CJ Spiller to 62 yards, one of more impressive defensive efforts this season from anyone.
Who will be the next top 10 team to fall?
