
Schools such as Boise State (Idaho), San Diego State (California), Central Florida (Florida), Memphis (Tennessee), Southern Methodist and Houston (both Texas), have prompted the idea due to their wide range.
Formerly known as a Providence, Rhode Island-based conference, officials have begun to study alternative names. It is unlikely that the entire format will be thrown away, as Bailey only intends to "tweak" the layout.
"The unintended consequences of adding new schools is that all of a sudden the Big East is a national conference," said Bailey. "It extends to four time zones in major markets. In one sense, it almost represents the United States in that diversity."
Bailey wouldn't drop any hints to what the change will be or when it will be presented to conference presidents.
