College Football Conference Rankings: SEC Continues To Dominate, Big 12 A Close 2nd
It's The SEC, Big 12, USC, And No One Else
READ MORE:
Another week, another top 10 matchup between SEC teams. Last week gave us a thrilling LSU victory over Auburn. This week we get # 3 Georgia going with the blackout against #9 Alabama.

Also for the second straight week, the top 10 is loaded with SEC and Big 12 teams. A combined total of 8 teams from those conferences.

So now onto the rankings after week 4 (already!?):

1. SEC
The SEC continues to strengthen their grip on the top spot of the conference rankings. Georgia actually traveled more than 50 miles from Georgia to play a non conference road game and handled Arizona St. Florida continued their dominance over Tennessee. LSU proved it was for real by going into Auburn and getting a victory. Plus, conference also ran Vanderbilt cracked the top 25 this week. Needless to say, the SEC is easily the best conference top to bottom.

What to watch this weekend: College Gameday will be in Athens this week for the battle of Alabama and Georgia. I don't know if this is true but I think this is the first time that a conference has had back to back matchups of different top 10 teams. Also Tennessee travels to Auburn and the rest of the conference elite are either off or playing inferior opponents.

2. Big 12
Which is bigger, the difference between the Big 12 and SEC or the difference between the Big 12 and the rest of the conferences combined? Last week, the Big 12 didn't have the best week last week but the top teams won big and Colorado knocked off West Virginia on Thursday night. Missouri struggled early but finally put away Buffalo, while Texas beat down Rice again. While Texas Tech continued its quest to win the FCS championship by beating UMASS.

What to watch this weekend: Oklahoma looks to avenge one of Bob Stoops' two home losses when TCU comes back to Norman for the first time since 2005 when they upset the top 5 Sooners. This is the only matchup of top 25 teams in the Big 12 but Nebraska has a chance to make a statement with Virgina Tech coming to Lincoln.

3. Pac 10
With USC off this past weekend the rest of the Pac 10 was given a chance to show it could be competitive and that the conference isn't just USC and 9 not very good teams. Well Oregon, with their 3rd or 4th string quarterback, lost to Boise St at home, UCLA continues to look lost with the loss to Arizona this weekend. Arizona St. stepped up and played Georgia but didn't stand a chance. The only reason the Pac 10 is ahead of the Big 10 is the fact that USC destroyed the "top team" in the Big 10 Ohio St.

What to watch this weekend: USC plays a rare Thursday night game up in Corvallis which has never been a friendly place to the Trojans. The only other game of more than just Pac 10 interest is Fresno St. continuing their anyone, anytime, any place philosophy by heading to Los Angeles to take on the floundering UCLA.

4. Big 10
The Big 10 enters conference play this weekend and they really didn't have a terrible weekend this past weekend. Michigan St beat Notre Dame on national television, Ohio St. bounced back against Troy, Penn St. destroyed another bad team, and Northwestern moved to 4-0. I am still not sure what to make of the Big 10 and I really don't know what we will find out them during conference play.

What to watch this weekend: A prime time matchup of Top 25 teams take place in Happy Valley as Illinois gives Penn St. their first real test of the season in what might be a very good game. Wisconsin heads to Michigan, and after the week off, maybe Rich Rod could pull off a monumental upset...but not likely.

5. Mountain West
The Mountain West continues to be the class of the non-BCS conferences. BYU continues to look like the team to crash the BCS party this season but Utah and TCU are both unbeaten with UNLV and Air Force being 3-1. The Mountain West is loaded with very good teams which will make it tougher for BYU, Utah, or TCU to go unbeaten but it should make for a very entertaining season of late night games.

What to watch this weekend: Only one real game for the conference this weekend as TCU travels to Oklahoma. Colorado St. also heads to Berkley to take on Cal.

6. ACC
The ACC finally separates itself from the Big East to become 2nd worst BCS conference. Wake Forest showed it was the class of the conference with its win over Florida St., Miami (FL) went to College Station and beat down Texas A&M, and North Carolina St. pulled off the upset of the weekend by beating East Carolina and knocking them out of the BCS race.

What to watch this weekend: Nothing really, but if forced to pick a game of the weekend for the ACC, Colorado plays at Florida St. which gives the Seminoles a chance to earn the conference some respect.

7. Big (L)East
Not a good week lands the Big East in the spot of worst BCS conference. Rutgers lost to Navy, West Virginia lost to Colorado, while the cream of the crop South Florida continued to dominate. Syracuse got their first win, against Northeastern (who?), Pittsburgh and Connecticut squeaked by Iowa and Baylor respectively.

What to watch this weekend: Connecticut plays Louisville on Friday night on ESPN2...that's really it.

8. Conference USA
9. WAC
10. MAC
11. Sun Belt
