College Football Game Day Thread - September 22nd
READ MORE:
Hey look, Oklahoma just scored another touchdown.

It seems whenever "the experts" say it's a down week on the college football schedule we end up witnessing all sort of craziness. It happened last year, and it might just happen today. Plenty of Top 25 teams who could fall.

Here's FanIQ picks on the games I'm most interested in watching:

Who's going to remain a sleeper in the Big Ten - Indiana or Illinois? Experts are picking the Hoosiers, but 52% of fans like the I-L-L-I-N-I

I never doubt the OBC's ability to pull off a big upset on the road, but I have a hard time believe the Gamecocks will even keep this close. So you do. 95% went with the LSU Tigers.

Hey look, Demarco Murray just scored another touchdown.

Time to find out if Penn State is really good. I think so, as do 80% picking the Nittany Lions.

Notre Dame's best chance to prevent an 0-8 start. I'd be stunned if the Spartans covered the spread (now 12.5), and honestly a little surprised if they won. You're not -- 87% are picking Sparty.

Hey look, Sam Bradford just threw another touchdown pass.

Saban is Football Deity tour continues. 76% say Roll Tide.

How satisfied is Kentucky with their big instate win? Too much IMO, too much to stop McFadden and Jones. 76% are going Hogs.

And time for Wisconsin to actually put an impressive win together tonight at home.

My Upset pick: NC State over Clemson

Alright, let's talk some football.

Let's see ... Pam Ward or Erin Andrews. Early decision is easy. Is it 3:30 yet?

Even Syracuse can move the football against Louisville. 7-0 Cuse.

What a poor selection of early morning games, I am actually on ESPNU watching GT get beat by Virginia. Oh and the Allen Patrick scored another Touchdown.

Seriously, what happened to GT? Did BC take away all their confidence. No way Virginia should be beating them like this.

Yawn. Someone tell Indiana that there's a football today and if they have interest in a bowl game they'd be well advised to win.

Nice! I thought they'd keep that game close. Nate Davis can ball.

Louisville has given up 239 yards to Syracuse in the 1st half.

The Cuse ranks 116th in total offense. 193 yards per game.

I'm terribly nervous about that. No way ND doesn't come out on fire. State has a couple injuries that concern me. I've seen the Spartans lose way too many games in this position to be confident.

You sound like I feel. I want to feel more confident today but my mind keeps going back to that game at the Michigan 2 years ago that I thought Penn State had won. Only to get beat By Maningham on the last play of the game in the back of the end zone.

Louisville is just plain bad.

I hope Syracuse can pull this off.

ESPN is doing a pretty good job of showing some bonus coverage from more interesting games.

After the top 10 or so, the rest of college football has become one big mess.  Its crazy.  USC's win over Nebraska might not mean anything, Kentucky's win over Louisville might mean nothing, Texas's win over TCU means nothing.  Its crazy, everyone is losing.

Great fake by LSU. The holder flicked the ball over his head... not look pass!

That punt by ND was a complete fiasco. It's pretty funny watching guys avoid the ball like they are afraid of it though.

9/22/07

It's really pouring down at LSU now.

9/22/07

I think my Gamecocks are done. We can't stop the run and are lucky it is only 21-7. That fake was ridiculous by Flynn. Probably will be 28-7 after the 2nd half kickoff. Oh well, maybe we will get lucky. Time to get another 6 pack.

You know the rules even at #24, they can't drop out unless they lose a game. Now if some of us were voters I'd at least jump #25 Missouri over them.

9/22/07

I'd also jump Oklahoma into that #3 spot after Florida barely escaped.

This PSU/Michigan game is the same way. I question the move to cover the ball with Astroglide before kickoff.

Given BC's struggles against Army, I'd be worrying about other things than BC's rank right now.

Also, BC came out flat, give them a break. A win's a win doesn't matter if they "struggled" (even though I believe they didn't).

P.S. If you were thinking I should worry about BC's secondary, well yes they aren't the best but they are always there to make a big play when needed and they don't face a really good QB, unless then make a BCS bowl. So I don't have to worry about them until then.

And now the discussion of where Michigan should be ranked begins, even though they are only 2-2 and lost to a freaking 1-AA team.

If they end up ranked tomorrow and ASU doesn't (provided ASU wins tonight), I'm going to be really pissed off.

Rudy is a classic, and I cried like a baby.  But today I'm a bitter girl who does not understand how her qb can throw for 555 yards, 4 touchdowns, and still lose to a team with one of the worst offenses in the country...

Really, do any Big Ten teams deserve to be ranked other than Ohio State and maybe Wisconsin (depending on tonight's game)?

Oh well, I'll take a 12 point loss at LSU. We gained respect today and Blake Mitchell is no longer our QB. Something that we have needed for a while.

Bama and Georgia are gonna keep knockin' each others mouth pieces out til the games over.  This is gonna be a game of turnovers and special teams (like most games, I know) but I bet the game is decided by one or the other late.

Georgia's D owns Bama right now.

Did anyone else get to see any of the Florida game today.  It wasn't aired because of technical difficulties with the TV station...hahahahahahahahaha.  There are tons of Gator fans in Pensacola and they are ticked.  Anyway, was the game as close as the score, or did Ole Miss score late to make it look close?

Your right I forgot they played in the SEC. With the defenses they have played so far, I mistook them for a Big East team.

Forget that 1st quarter, these last 3 quarters have shown how good this team is.

(Edited by Jon)
Final score: Arizona State 44, Oregon State 32.

After falling behind 19-0, ASU outscored OSU 44-13 in the final 3 quarters. Ended up covering the spread. Falling behind that early was no fault of the defense. Save for 1 drive, OSU had a couple of really short fields to work with. Though they did give up over 500 yards for the game - they won't be able to get away with that too often, but they forced OSU to turn the ball over 6 times. The Devils didn't run the ball particularly well, but considering they were playing catch up for 3 quarters, they were able to show off the passing game.

The stats for Rudy Carpenter:

27-38, 371 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

Carpenter also just dropped an f-bomb during his postgame radio interview.

Under Koetter & Synder before him, the Sun Devils would have folded after falling behind early. Welcome to Tempe, Dennis Erickson.
