Saturday 12pm ABC: Michigan at #10 Ohio St. [93% of FanIQ are picking Ohio St.]
The usually great rivalry will be a blowout this year. Ohio St. is a 24.5 point favorite and that might be the biggest spread in the history of this rivalry. The Sweatervest owns a 6-1 record over Michigan, including 4 in a row. Ohio St. needs a win and to hope for Michigan St. to knock off Penn St. to earn a trip to the Rose Bowl. Last season Beanie Wells ran for a career high and OSU record vs. Michigan 222 yards plus two touchdowns, and Vernon Gholston sacked Chad Henne 3 times in route 14-3 victory. Ohio State's defense limited the Wolverines to just 91 yards of offense, with a mere 14 net yards in the 2nd half, so Rich Rod doesn't have too far to go up from that last season. Look for Beanie Wells to run all over the Wolverines as Ohio St. rolls. The Ohio St. 35 Meeechigan 10
Saturday 3pm Fox Sports: 0-10 Washington at 1-10 Washington St [86% are picking Washington]
I put this one in here because the Apple Cup this season will be known as "The Crapple Cup". Both teams really suck but I just wanted to work in "The Crapple Cup". Washington 14 Washington St. 10
Saturday 3:30pm ABC: #15 Michigan St. at #8 Penn St. [76% of FanIQ are picking Penn St.]
The first of four matchups between ranked teams and this one could give us our first BCS Bowl participant. With a win Penn St. wins the Big 10 and will get the automatic bid to The Rose Bowl. Surprisingly The all-time series between Penn State and Michigan State is tied at 12-12-1 so leading in the rivalry is also on the line. For the Nittany Lions, they are looking to get back to their winning ways after losing to Iowa two weeks ago even though they did beat Indiana 34-7 last week. This will be a battle of strength vs strength as Penn St. allows just 101 yards on the ground while Michigan St. runs for 148 a game. Penn St.'s defense will prove to be the difference as they pull this one out and secure a bid to the Rose Bowl. Nittany Lions 24 Spartans 14
Saturday 6pm The Mountain Network: #14 BYU at #7 Utah [74% of FanIQ are picking Utah]
This is one of the biggest midmajor matchups of the season in addition to being one of the most heated rivalries in all of college football. Since I don't know a lot about this rivalry, I looked it up on Wikipedia and this is what I found, "BYU (aka "the Y") is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ("LDS Church"). The University of Utah (aka "the U"), on the other hand, is a public state-owned school. Because this rivalry includes a "church vs. state" dimension, many fans of both schools use it as a forum to vent deeply-held feelings and perceptions. For instance, many BYU fans stereotype Utah fans as a group of godless and antagonizing anti-Mormons, while many Utah fans perceive BYU fans as having self-righteous, “holier-than-thou” attitudes. Through these perceptions, the thrill of victory and the sting of defeat are magnified." Now that is what I call a rivalry of biblical proportions. Utah can all but lock up a BCS bid with a win in thier last game of the season and BYU would love nothing more than to end those dreams and perhaps put themselves in line for the BCS bid instead. In one of the better games from Saturday, I see Utah having the ball last and hitting a game winning FG to win the Moutain West Conference Title and send them to a BCS Bowl for the second time. Saturday 7:45pm ESPN: Florida St. at #25 Maryland [64% of FanIQ are picking Florida St.]
Who wants to win the ACC? This game has major implications as to who will represent the ACC Atlantic division in the ACC title game. Maryland is currently in first place at 4-2 but Florida St. is right on their heals at 4-3 and a win here by either team would essientially wrap up the ACC Atlantic division. Florida St. is coming off a loss to Boston College last week (27-17) while Maryland enters this game after beating North Carolina 17-15 last week. Neither team is going to be mistaken for a high powered offense as this game will be played in the low 20's at best. Maryland will look grind this out on the ground, trying to wear down the Florida St. defense. I really don't know what to say about any of these ACC teams because one week they look like they could be dangerous and then they take a step back the next week. I'll go with the Terps but I wouldn't be shocked to see the Seminoles pull this one out. Terps 17 'Noles 14
Saturday 7:15pm ESPN2: #20 Pittsburgh at #19 Cincinnati [79% of FanIQ are picking Cincinnati]
If I told you that a top 20 matchup between Big East teams would happen late in the season, you would think it would include West Virginia or South Florida right? Wrong. Pittsburgh has come back from their early season loss to Bowling Green to 7-2 while Cincinnati is at 8-2 and with a win on Saturday night would clinch at least a share of the Big East title. The Bearcats are led by Tony Pike who has thrown for 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns this season while reciever Marshwan Gilyard has been a beast on both the recieving and return game with 1,157 total yards and 10 touchdowns. On the other side, Pittsburgh has been led by super soph LeSean McCoy who leads the team with 1,043 yards and 16. This game will be back and forth but I give the edge to Cincinnati at home. Bearcats 28 Panthers 24
Saturday 8pm ABC: #2 Texas Tech at #5 Oklahoma [64% of FanIQ are picking Oklahoma]
The biggest game of the weekend and of course it happens in the Big 12. Full disclosure, I am probably the biggest OU fan here on FanIQ so I will try as best as I can to be unbiased. Texas Tech is coming in 10-0 after two huge wins in the past 3 weeks over Top 10 teams Texas and Oklahoma St. The Red Raiders are playing some of the best football in the Mike Leach era, especially on defense. Graham Harrell has thrown for 4077 yards and 36 touchdowns, with 1010 of those yards and 18 of those touchdowns going to the best reciever in college football Michael Crabtree. You might think that the Red Raiders have the Sooners number since they have won two of the last three but think about this if you will. In 2005 in Lubbock OU's starting QB was redshirt freshman Rhett Bomar and the Red Raiders needed a very controversial TD at the end of the game to win, while their win last year, in Lubbock again, came with Sam Bradford getting knocked out early in the game and seldom used, at the time, backup Joey Halzle leading the Sooners almost all the way back with a touchdown that was incorrectly called that would have tied the ball game up. The Red Raiders defense has played better this season, but they have yet to go against an offense that is clicking on all cylinders as the Sooners offense is. The Sooners are averaging 51 points per game this season and 58 in the past 4 games. Sam Bradford has thrown for 3406 yards and national leading 38 touchdowns. The two headed monster at running back, DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown have ran for 804 and 11 touchdowns and 782 yards and 12 touchdowns respectively. This game will come down to whichever defense can get a stop at a key point in the game. With this game being in Norman and Bob Stoops having a 59-2 records in Norman and Oklahoma's offense being better than Tech's, I give the edge to the Sooners. Sooners 48 Red Raiders 42
