Since you're likely to be in a turkey-alcohol-family induced coma over the next few days, I figured we might as well get our picks out while they'll make any sense. Even that might be a stretch today. Awesome three days of college football ahead should finally answer all our questions starting with the big on in Kansas City.
#2 Kansas vs #4 Missouri (Sat, 8 ABC)
As interested as I am to watch what will transpire on the field between two teams that most of us haven't figured out yet, I'll be paying closer attention to the crowd. Night game at Arrowhead + Big Rivalry + Selling Beer inside = Shenanigans.
I remain skeptical about the Jayhawks due to their lack of wins over good teams. Kansas' best win is against Oklahoma State (38th in Sagarin) and it was an impressive performance but how are we to judge good play against average teams? Just my gut feeling but I think Missouri wins by a couple touchdowns. More playmakers on offense, Maclin should tilt the special teams advantage to the Tigers and Chase outplays Reesing by a significant margin. Tigers 38, Jayhawks 24.
#6 Arizona State vs #11 USC (Thurs, 8 ESPN)
I'm probably coming across like a Sun Devil hater, picking against them for the last three weeks, but I'm just not a believer they are BCS caliber. USC still has a lot to play for (2 wins + Oregon loss = Roses) and I think the Trojans put together one of their more complete games of the season. 6th straight Pac-10 title 31, Will get one soon 24.
#13 Texas at Texas A&M (Fri, 3:30 ABC)
So very tempted to pick the the Aggies at home but that would be making a big assumption Dennis Franchione doesn't abandon a strategy that will work very well in the first half. Look for A&M to lead at the half, then do something stupid throughout the second. Hook'em 35, Cook'em 28.
#19 Boise State at #15 Hawaii (Fri, 9 ESPN2)
No surprise that you're split on who will win. BCS Bowl bid is on the line (potentially). Still not that impressed with the Warriors other than their ability to come from behind and beat a few mediocre teams. I don't think they'll be able to pull that stunt off another time against the best team they've played all season. Boise's ability to run the football effectively should work to their advantage. Of course that could be neutralized by the normally shoddy officiating in Honolulu. For Real 48, Gimmick 42
#8 Virginia Tech at #16 Virginia (Sat, 12 ESPN2)
I remain puzzled how the Cavaliers have gotten themselves into a position to win the ACC. Finally Al Groh has achieved what his recruiting classes were supposed to deliver. Should be close due to home field, but Tech's far and away the better team. Hokies 27, UVA 16
Quick Picks:
LSU 30, Oh Nutts! 20
Nebraska 38, Colorado 24
'Eers 48, UConn 21
Kentucky 38, I heart donuts 35
FireDorrell.com 33, FireBradyLeaf.com 31
Barry Sanders 34, Billy Sims 31
War Eagle 20, War Saban 16
