We touched on the biggest story of the week (season!) last night, the stunning Appalachian State victory, but what else happened during yesterday's opening day:
Georgia Tech 33, Notre Dame 3 This was of very little surprise to me, the Yellow Jackets are a very talented, well-coached defensive football team. If there was any good news, maybe it's that Jimmy Clausen should be the starting QB. Tashard Choice running for 196 yards and two scores should hopefully take him off the underrated list. Choice was one of the better plays on Saturday in all games, and could have had many more yards without cramping out. As I said Wednesday, Game 1 in what will be a 1-7 start for the Irish.
Boston College 38, Wake Forest 28 Matt Ryan + Jagodzinski attacking offense could equal some impressive stats for the senior QB. 40-57, 402 yards and 5 TD's. Before the BC fans get all Heisman happy, he threw 2 INT in the end zone that were poor. I was real surprised the Eagles stuffed the Deacons rushing attack so well.
Cal 45, Tennessee 31 Maybe the best offense in the Pac-10 resides in Northern California? It doesn't matter he only caught 4 catches for 45 yards, DeSean Jackson will win games with a punt return all season.
Besides Appalachian State, what was your biggest surprise yesterday?
Plenty more reactions later today including a fun look at what the message boards are saying today. If you want to be entertained, head over the U of M sites.
