First night of college football is in the books. LSU students take the early lead in the brilliant sign standings. Seriously, how great is that?
LSU 45, Mississippi State 0 If there are any of you saying you thought the Tigers would look better, let me help you. LSU plays Virginia Tech next week. You think they were going to show anything tonight. What's a little scary is that with an extremely vanilla offense and defense, the Bayou Bengals beat Miss State this bad. (Is Mike Kenig the worst QB ever?) A matter of fact, that's really scary. Let's just say this could have looked a whole lot like ...
Louisville 73, Murray State 10 Ok, can the NCAA prohibit D1 teams from playing this type of competition? It's not needed. If they want a preseason scrimmage against the Racers, then by all means invite them to campus for an organized scrimmage. But when it counts, is this really necessary? On the first four drives there wasn't a DB within 15 yards of a Cardinal receiver. What purpose does this serve? There may be a blog post on this later ...
Rutgers 38, Buffalo 3 This was Buffalo, nothing to see here.
Kent State 23, Iowa State 14 Yikes! Good luck with the press conference tomorrow Gene Chizik. Kent State isn't all that bad, just another MAC team beating a BCS foe. It's nothing new, you guys just normally don't notice.
Of little interest to you, but a lot to me, Miami 14, Ball State 13. In what was otherwise an exhibition of bad play calling by Redhawks head coach Shane Montgomery, my beloved alma mater go it right with 17 seconds remaining and handed the ball to Brandon Murphy to a 6-yard plunge. To make a long story short, my dad was stuck in Fort Smith, Arkansas this morning with a canceled flight. Because he's my dad, and driven by a passion for football (right or wrong), he rented a car and drove all the way to Muncie, IN to catch the ending. True story. My dad is nuts.
Anyway, that's just the start of a fun weekend. Feel free to share your Day 1 reactions here.
