Brief reaction from the late afternoon games ...Oregon 39, Michigan 7
Lloyd Carr is going to be lucky if he makes it through the season ... alive. I realize the Wolverines lost some key starters to the NFL, but a defense this bad is unacceptable. The amount of missed tackles is only eclipsed by the number of boos. Even worse, an offense that has no excuses for not being explosive could only muster 7 points? What is going in A-squared?
Legit question -- as an AD would you make any bold moves this early in the season?
Stepping away from the Wolverines, let's acknowledge that the Ducks are probably a very good football team. The Statue of Liberty play, followed by the fake Statue and QB keeper by Dennis Dixon was beautiful.
I'll be sure to keep you abreast of the Ann Arbor reaction. Can't wait to get up early tomorrow and read the local papers.
Washington 24, Boise State 10
Jake Locker is the Tebow. 192 yards passing and a TD, 84 yards rushing with another TD. Time to lay off Tyrone Willingham for a bit. I've never understood the criticism and "hot seat" talk. Huskies now play Ohio State at home and it might be time to call the first upset next week. Pac-10 is the real deal this year.
Boston College 37, NC State 17
In a loss, Harrison Beck showed he's going to be a very good QB even if he threw 5 interceptions. Matt Ryan Heisman campaign hit a speed bump, 141 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
California 34, Colorado State 28
Another example of why you need not get to high on yourself. DeSean Jackson might have competition for the most explosive player on his own team. No joke. Jahvid Best can work it. He and Jackson had 4 carries for 151 yards and 2 TD.
Now time for me to go vomit after seeing ESPN compare Jimmy Clausen's debut to that of Lebron James and Wayne Gretzky.
