College Football Scores: Oregon Ducks Embarrass Lloyd Carr, Michigan Wolverines 39-7
READ MORE:
Brief reaction from the late afternoon games ...

Oregon 39, Michigan 7
Lloyd Carr is going to be lucky if he makes it through the season ... alive. I realize the Wolverines lost some key starters to the NFL, but a defense this bad is unacceptable. The amount of missed tackles is only eclipsed by the number of boos. Even worse, an offense that has no excuses for not being explosive could only muster 7 points? What is going in A-squared?

Legit question -- as an AD would you make any bold moves this early in the season?

Stepping away from the Wolverines, let's acknowledge that the Ducks are probably a very good football team. The Statue of Liberty play, followed by the fake Statue and QB keeper by Dennis Dixon was beautiful.

I'll be sure to keep you abreast of the Ann Arbor reaction. Can't wait to get up early tomorrow and read the local papers.

Washington 24, Boise State 10
Jake Locker is the Tebow. 192 yards passing and a TD, 84 yards rushing with another TD. Time to lay off Tyrone Willingham for a bit. I've never understood the criticism and "hot seat" talk. Huskies now play Ohio State at home and it might be time to call the first upset next week. Pac-10 is the real deal this year.

Boston College 37, NC State 17
In a loss, Harrison Beck showed he's going to be a very good QB even if he threw 5 interceptions. Matt Ryan Heisman campaign hit a speed bump, 141 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.

California 34, Colorado State 28
Another example of why you need not get to high on yourself. DeSean Jackson might have competition for the most explosive player on his own team. No joke. Jahvid Best can work it. He and Jackson had 4 carries for 151 yards and 2 TD.

Now time for me to go vomit after seeing ESPN compare Jimmy Clausen's debut to that of Lebron James and Wayne Gretzky.

Probably THE most thrilling day for me since the 2002 Fiesta Bowl when Oregon beat a heavily favored Colorado team.

Notes from the BC-NC State game:

Jamie Silva is SICK!!!
Harrison Beck is indeed going to be a good QB, once he can cut down on the INT's. His decision making is suspect at best...but his arm is pretty amazing.
BC needs to work on their special teams. Their kicking game is atrocious. Aponavicious missed an extra point, and Billy Bennett was absolutely awful as a kickoff specialist. The Eagles were horribly afraid of Darrell Blackman all game. It may have been for a good reason, but that doesn't make it any less embarrassing.

I wonder if Bucks fans are going to buy a ton of Oregon gear this next week like they did for App. St.?

Except for Oregon State.  The Beavers choked against Cincinnati.  Washington may be the real deal though, dispatching Boise State.  That's bad for the rest of the Pac-10.

Not much else can be asked for a Spartan fan than to have Michigan and Notre Dame 0-2

If you're the Michigan AD I think you have to start talking to Carr about how he wants to leave town, and then start compilling a list of candidates that you want to tlook at after the season.

I'm just glad to have the attention off of Louisville's poor first half defensive performance for a minute...

Other than going 2-0 against them presumably?  Gotta like their odds this year.

I meant that they have a shot at the PAC10 Championship Todd. Boise State is not Michigan. Just have to wait and watch.

I misread your post, sorry about that.  But still, other than a few teams, the Pac-10 will beat each other up, like they do every year.

I did a roundup of reactions to the game from my friends in Ann Arbor and around the  country watching it on Twitter.

Michigan Who?  What an embarrassment.

When was the last time the Wolverines were 0-2 to start the season? They've already crapped out ,in all probability, for a BCS Bowl, given they play Ohio State. They will get no respect from any team in the Big Ten now.

I edited my post Tardy. I realized that they had played no Big Ten teams yet. My mistake.

Michigan is playing the Notre Dame (0-2) next week, which guarantees that one of them will be 0-3 at the end of the 3d week.  The Times says "If misery loves company, Notre Dame and Michigan will be a perfect match next weekend; each traditional power is 0-2 and staring at a long season."

It would be rather ironic if they went undefeated in the Big 10 and ended up with a 3 or 4 loss season, and still ended up in a BCS bowl.

It will be something to think about before the next  NCAA poll. ND only scored 10 points against PSU.

It would be more like a miracle if they get a BCS berth with at least a lost to Ohio State. The Badgers aren't pushovers and neither is Penn State. You pick them.

I was joking. I honestly don't think Michigan is going anywhere this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose 6 or more this year (PSU, MSU, Wisconsin and OSU, along with maybe Purdue and ND).

I was never any love lost for Michigan in TN. Most VOL fans can't stand them.

I am going to the Michigan/Illinois game in October. When planning to go, I thought it would be a good chance to enjoy some fall weather, drink some beer, and witness a good old fashioned beatdown given to my Illini. Now, I think I may see a competitive game!

I can't decide which is the better "feel good" story in the Big Ten so far...
Indiana being 2-0 for Coach Hoeppner,
or Michigan being 0-2 for the rest of the Big Ten...
Both give me nice warm feelings

I don't think I've enjoued watching a beatdown like that in years. I laughed the entire game. But that last (fake) staute of liberty play and the reaction the ABC camera caught with one of the fans. An attractive young U of M.... fan just put her head in her hands in disbelief. I actually felt empathy for her. I still hate Michigan though and man if they're having trouble now what do you think will hap[pen in the Big Ten. It doesn't get any easier.
