Another major change is set to take place in UFC 137. This time the fight card has been changed after the UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre got injured and ruled out of the tournament.
It was the UFC President, Dana White who announced St-Pierre’s exclusion from the tournament. White informed about St-Pierre’s injury via Twitter.
“I just land in NYC and what do I always say? I have to deal with bad (expletive) everyday. GSP is out with an injury,” wrote White.
The news comes as a shock to both the officials and fans as St-Pierre was just about a week away from facing Carlos Condit in the main event of UFC 137.
Barely any other official from UFC 137 has stepped forward to speak on the issue or provide media with more information. Even White seems to have a limited amount of information on the topic.
The details of saga remain sketchy, nonetheless White did respond to a fan who questioned the reason St-Pierre had abandoned the event. White stated that St-Pierre had suffered a knee injury from which he won’t be able to recover in time to step in the octagon for the fight.
Sources from within MMAWeekly.com have informed that Condit is also expected to withdraw from the tournament soon, therefore the fight between St-Pierre and Condit will be removed from the UFC 137 fight card.
Sources said that Condit would rather wait to fight a healthy St-Pierre than to have a crack at another opponent. The UFC is expected to make the official announcement to cancel the fight between St-Pierre and Condit any moment now.
According to analysts, the other welterweight fight on the card between B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz is expected to be promoted as the featured event now.
