There have been reports surfacing lately that Deron Williams is not opposed to going to the Lakers, he's just not sure as to how it would happen. Quite frankly, neither are a lot of people.
After July 1st, Williams is an unrestricted free agent. He'll likely get a boatload of money to go play somewhere like Dallas, who has been preparing for this free agent season all of last. However, until then, he will be a part of the Brooklyn Nets, who know he's leaving. This is why some, like Mark Medina
of the LA Times, suggest that the Lakers work out sign and trade. The Lakers won't have the money to sign him as a free agent, but if they could trade, say a Pau Gasol, then there is hope that they could get him.
The problem is that Williams has a player option this year. So, it would have to be discussed if he would renegotiate a contract to stay for a year or longer. If there's a renegotiation though, he my ask for more money.
What's interesting about this also is that there are reports the Lakers are working with the Mavericks to extend Lamar Odom's contract so they can trade him.
The Lakers are notoriously secretive with what their plans are, which leaves the rest of us speculating. So there could be a three-team trade in the works, or they may just be planning two seperate trades.
The only thing that's certain is that the Lakers are very busy behind the scenes.
