Cowboys’ Dez Bryant: My “foot feels great”
The fourth-year pro Bryant claimed he was not limited at Thursday’s practice. While Bryant was also listed as a full participant at practice on Wednesday, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett admitted that might have been a slight exaggeration. Bryant participated in the drills Wednesday but Garrett said he did not get the same number of reps as he normally does during team practices. However, Garrett added that “it seemed like he responded well” to yesterday’s workout.
"And that was just a function of, you know, we played Sunday night, he has a little bit of a foot injury and we just want to make sure that he's healthy and ready to go for this ballgame,” Garrett said in his news conference prior to Thursday’s practice. “No setbacks, it was just maybe a little bit more of a limited practice for him than a typical Wednesday.”
Bryant suffered the foot injury during Sunday’s win over the New York Giants when he rolled his ankle late in the fourth quarter but still remained in the game. However, Bryant had a disappointing night as the Giants held him to four catches for 22 yards, by consistently playing press coverage with a safety over the top.
But neither Bryant nor the Cowboys seemed overly concerned about the sprained left foot. Bryant remains upbeat and said on Thursday that his foot “feels great” at practice. Barring any setbacks, it continues to look likely that the Bryant will be on the field when the team travels to Kansas City for their Week 2 game against the Chiefs.
“I promise you, my time’s coming,” Bryant said. “When it comes, I’m going to take advantage of it.”
When Bryant was asked if he was ever worried about the injury, the former first-rounder responded: “No. Never.”
Around 30 minutes of Thursday’s practice was open to the media. During that portion, Bryant – who was wearing pads and helmet as well – participated in drills without much of a problem.
However, Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer did not work out Thursday, after initially returning to practice on limited basis Wednesday. The Cowboys said Spender was given a planned day off, after his first day returning to the practice following knee surgery. Garret said Spencer is “getting himself acclimated to playing football again” and that a decision on his status could be stretch out to Sunday.
