I know next to nothing about Cricket, but this proved to be a good starting point to learn.
Last week, Yuvraj Singh of Indian hit six 6's in a row against England ... which is apparently spectacular. First off, it sounds impressive, and judging from the video and crowd reaction it might as well have been his 74th home run.
So there you have it, cricket highlights ... and now I hear crickets.
Cricket can be a surprisingly good stand in for baseball when you're really missing it and unable to watch. When I was writing my Masters dissertation, it was the only thing on TV during the day for most of the summer. I still don't understand many of the rules or the terminology, but it's pretty easy to pick up the basics.
I know nothing about cricket either, except the fact that it takes forever to play. After watching King Ralph, I thought it was a bad thing to hit the ball out like that.
We need to get someone on the site who follows cricket to make a post on the rules of cricket, just a run through.
Thanks! I didn't think about Wiki. It's still quite confusing though. From what I have read so far, some of the terms aren't described very well. In other words, it isn't dummied down enough for me. I will read some more once I get home and let you know what confuses me the most (way to go, you just became the FanIQ cricket tutor).
I used to work with a guy from Uruguay and he tried to explain cricket to me a few times. Between his not-so-good english and him having to leave to go back home, I didn't quite grasp the entire jest of the game. But it has always intrigued me.
This format of cricket (20/20) takes about as long as a baseball game (3hrs). Unless it's the Yankees v's the Rs, which usually takes 4hrs LOL.
BTW this format is going to be huge. I posted a poll on here about a year ago asking whether peeps thought there'd be a world championship in 20/20 cricket and most peeps thought not, as it'd only became popular a year ago. Oh ye have little faith!
Ironically M.S. Dhoni who is a bigger hitter was the other batter at the other end. Went to watch England play India in a ODI at Goa in India and the atmosphere and hospitallity was tremendous!
What do you mean by match-manage? BTW congrats on winning the county championship again but we sure gave you a run for your money. It was an heroic effort by us (Lancs) on that last day!
Wow that's fantastic. Is that your full time job? I think it'll be close again next season, especially if Mutti comes back to spin his magic. At least you had Mushy to the very end whereby we lost Mutti to an injury. Even if he'd had been fit he still would have played for Lanka in the 20/20 cup. I put a poll on here about a year ago asking people whether they thought the 20/20 format should be played more at international level? Little did I know how massive it would become. Apparently some countries are pushing for the ODI's to be lowered to 40 overs. I think this could be a good idea because the middle overs of the ODI's are very predictable. BTW the match in Goa was a great experience which I'd love to repeat. I love India. It's a beautiful diverse country where the players are reverred like Gods.
I was running polls last year on the cricket matches. During the home series with Pakistan I was running the 'most runs', 'most wickets' etc. until I ended up travelling round India again. So I'll give you a hand if required. BTW 2 x 20 over innings per side is a cracking idea. I've really got into baseball as you can see with my username in the past 8 years and I taught myself all the rules while watching channel five's coverage. So I'll be rooting for a Yankee appearence in the world series.

I learnt the rules of baseball from the UK's scant coverage on TV and now love both cricket and baseball. There are quite a lot of similarities and the new shorter format 20/twenty takes about as long as a baseball game.
