It was a good day for SI to run a top 10 reasons the AL dominates the NL, as the American League won 11 of 15 interleague games yesterday.
The New York Mets did get the back of their subway series rival in the afternoon in a very big way. Carlos Delgado tied a club record with nine RBI's, hitting a three-run homer in the 5th and following it with a grand slam in the 6th. Mets 15, Yankees 6
The beating didn't last long, as the two teams made their way from the Bronx down to Queens where the Yankees returned the favor with their own nine-run beating. Yankees 9, Mets 0
This trend would continue...
White Sox 10, Cubs 3 South Siders returned to friendlier confines and took advantage of a shaky, at best, Ryan Dempster. Frankly, I'm surprised it didn't get worse. Nick Swisher blew it open with a grand slam in the 3rd, while D.P. Lee continues his assault on the single-season ground into double play record.
Twins 7. Brewers 6 Minnesota continues to abuse the national league with their 10th straight win, all against the NL. It's going to be a painful transition when the regular schedule resumes. But hey, good news for Milwaukee fans -- Summerfest begins, and Eric Gagne is starting his comeback which should encourage you to drink a few more brewski's that originally planned.
Royals 7, Cardinals 2 Easily the most embarrassing statistic for the NL, the Kansas City Royals lost 12 consecutive games in May. Interleague play arrives in June and they've won 11 of their last 12, beating the Cards for the 4th straight time. Alex Gordon hit his 10th home run, and drove in three other runs with three more hits.
Alright NL, let's return the favor today.
