Monday's MLB roundup ...
It looks like we're down to just two races, maybe three to track the rest of the month.
NL Central
Cubs 12, Cards 3 I'm always thankful for football this time of year. Normally, it's for taking my mind off another Cubs losing season. But in the rare case they're involved in a pennant race; it provides a healthy distraction so I don't get my hopes up. Surprisingly, the Cubbies showed some interest in the postseason with a 3 HR bashing of St. Louis. I think this is coming down to the very last day.
Pirates 9, Brewers 0 A day removed from becoming my least favorite baseball team, Pittsburgh jumps back as my second favorite. Is there any doubt the neither the Cubs nor the Brewers are going to go out and win this division with a big run. It'll be a battle of who blows it least. That's what you get with two organizations only familiar with losing.
NL Wild Card
Phillies 6, Rockies 5 It seems Philly has only been winning or losing games in the 9th inning over the last month. Yet another comeback, this one to get within 1.5 games of San Diego, on a Ryan Howard game-winning double.
AL Wild Card
Tigers 5, Blue Jays 4 Hell of a finish last night in Detroit. Maybe, just maybe, a season saving 9th inning for the Tigs. Alex Rodriguez is going to win the AL MVP, but Magglio Ordonez is keeping the Tigers in the race. A two-run game-winning single keeps Detroit within 3.5 games of New York. I think the Tigers have one more big run left.
