The Oakland Raiders are in a rut, heading 1-3 into the Week 5 for the sixth time in eight season. The secondary is thinning with  Oakland Raiders starting cornerbacks Shawnte Spencer and Ron Bartell, both sitting out games due to injury. In terms of an overall perspective the defense is feeble, with the Oakland Raiders ranking 25th in the league, and specifically 27th against the pass. In times like these, defensive end Andre Carter’s return from a long rehabilitation is a welcome addition to the Oakland Raiders’ defense.

Andre Carter is returning from a season-ending leg injury after he was carted-off the field against the Denver Broncos with a torn quadriceps muscle, 10 months ago. The 33-year-old Andre Carter ended last season with the New England Patriots on just 10 sacks. The 12-year veteran pass rush specialist Andre Carter has 76 career sacks.

Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen revealed that Andre Carter will return from the quadriceps muscle injury that required surgery and a difficult rehabilitation against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

"It gives us a little bit more veteran leadership," said Dennis Allen. "He's a guy that understands how to do it, and he's done it at a high level.”

While many teams were uncomfortable with the uncertain status of Andre Carter owing to the quadriceps muscle injury, the Oakland Raiders were more open-minded towards adding a veteran piece to the secondary.

The Oakland Raiders gave Andre Carter two workouts before signing him on 26th September, following the Raiders’ Week 3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. That win has been the only high point in the Oakland Raiders’ season so far.

Andre Carter’s addition will bolster the Oakland Raiders’ pass rush game, which has produced just three sacks over four games.

“He's come in and tried to help the whole group,” stated Dennis Allen. “He's been a good addition for us.”

Although Dennis Allen, hasn’t revealed the amount of time Andre Carter will play against the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday, he appeared certain that the defensive end will not be limited during his Oakland Raiders debut.

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey will also return against the Atlanta Falcons after being knocked unconscious on a helmet-to-chin collision with Pittsburgh Steelers safety. Following the 23rd September game, Darrius Heyward-Bey was diagnosed with a neck stain and a concussion he sustained on the hit.

In more good news, Oakland Raiders defensive end Tommy Kelly, who sustained a foot injury during Wednesday’s practice, has been again cleared for workouts. However, Tommy Kelly is still listed as questionable against the Atlanta Falcons, although there’s a high probability of him playing Sunday.

Meanwhile, Oakland Raiders tight end Richard Gordon is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
