Raiders' first-round pick Hayden hospitalized with abdominal injury
Hayden was admitted to a local hospital late last week for abdominal surgery to remove scar tissue. Despite being admitted last week, the news was not public until head coach Dennis Allen addressed the media on Tuesday. Although they do not have an exact timetable on Hayden's return, both Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie appeared confident that the young corner will be ready for training camp.
There has yet to be definite confirmation that this procedure was unrelated to Hayden's aforementioned heart injury, but the doctor who performed surgery on Hayden's heart says the two ailments are unrelated based on the information he has received. Obviously, any sort of complication having to do with Hayden's heart would be a major concern - not just to the Raiders' roster, but to Hayden's long-term health as well.
However, it appears that this injury should be fairly standard and Hayden will be able to get his career in full swing during training camp. The Raiders - who claim to have been prepared to select Hayden 3rd overall if they did not trade down - are extremely high on the young Houston product, and expect him to make a borderline Pro Bowl-caliber contribution as a rookie.
