Dale Earnhardt Jr wins at Pocono to become third driver with three wins
If it were Larry McReynolds and Darrell Waltrip doing the commentary today, that is exactly what you would have heard. A "Big One" at Pocono? Never before, but there sure was today.
There were only 22 laps left in the race when Denny Hamlin got a little loose in the middle of the pack, lost his rear end and spun. The chain reaction caused a wreck the likes of only seen at Talladega and Daytona. In the end, 14 cars were out of the race
As lesser damaged cars made repairs and pit stops ensued, Dale Jr. came through the pack and charged to the front to sweep at Pocono for 2014. He joins Brad Keselowski and Jimmie Johnson with three wins each in the season. Kevin Harvick, who had an incredibly fast car, but a lot of bad luck, finished second while Jeff Gordon, the dominant car in the second half of the race, had to settle for 6th. Oh, and Denny Hamlin? He managed to pull off ninth.
Brad Keselowski was caught up in the wreck and finished 23rd. He sits third in points behind Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. Jimmie Johnson hit the wall after a right rear tire went flat early in the race and although he was competitive in the race after that, a second hit to the wall on lap 111 knocked him out of the race for good. He settled for 39th and sits 6th in points.
The teams head off to Watkins Glen for their second road course race in the season next weekend.
