Blog Photo - Dale Earnhardt Jr out two races with concussionIf you watched any of the Talladega race last weekend, or just saw replays of the last lap, you know there was a wreckfest on that last lap, resulting in most of the field being destroyed.

If you watched any of the post-race interviews, you saw Dale Earnhardt Jr holding and rubbing his head.  It was commented about widely on twitter.

Well, yesterday Dale Jr visted the doctor and was told what we suspected, he has a concussion.

Due to the serious nature of that injury, and the potential for even more injury if driving, Dale Jr has been ordered out of the car for two race by his physician.  Regan Smith will drive the 88 at Charlotte and Kansas, with Dale returning to driving duties in Martinsville, if everything checks out okay.

Dale Jr. will address the media at 11am ET, so we may hear more on the situation.  In the meantime, I wish him the best.  Yesterday was also his birthday but, not I'm sure, the way he wanted to celebrate.

Regan Smith will take Earnhardt's car and AJ Allmendinger is going to the 51 to take Smith's place.

Read the Q & A session that Jr, Rick Hendrick and Dr. Petty held today and the concussion is the second one Jr has had in a little over a month.  The wreck he had at testing at Kansas also resulted in a mild concussion, but the relatively mild hit at Talladega, compounded with the wicked hit at Kansas means that he just isn't cleared to drive.  The good news is that all the tests they conducted on Jr. were clear, meaning that it is only his own gut feeling about his health that has the doctors being cautious.  He'll sit out for 4-5 days until the headaches subside, then they will try to "recreate" the headaches.  If they put him under stress and the headaches don't return, he'll be cleared to drive.

Hope he's all right, he's already lost a family member, don't let it happen again.

Kudos on being smart !!  He will be around to race again, the chase is important to them, but not as important as their lives.  Sending get well wishes to him !!
