FanIQ | Sports Rumors, Gossip, Blogs, News & Discussion ForumsAfter the game ended last night, the prognosis for Dallas Stars goaltender, Kari Lehtonen, was not good and the news didn’t seem to get better on Sunday. Lehtonen was absent from the ice during morning skate and head coach Lindy Ruff said that with what was likely a concussion, Lehtonen "wasn't doing that well".

The Stars were prepared for moments like these when their starting players would get indefinitely injured and they would have to bring in someone to step in their shoes and take the burden and at the same time be able to deliver a professional performance. Fortunately, they had the right guy in their roster to step in the place of Lehtonen.

That guy is Tim Thomas,  signed at the trade deadline, was to become another strong backup goalie. Now that their starting goalie is down they will be placing Thomas onto the front line sooner than both parties had anticipated.   Additionally, they have called up Cristopher Nilstorp.  Even though they had been training Thomas to be the guy in case of emergencies, he has had somewhat of a short time to get ready for this.

Even so, fortune favors the Stars as he has had enough training to be the man for the job.

The news on the extent of injury is still unclear and the Stars franchise has yet to give a definite report on the subject. Nevertheless, the prognosis was not good and news coming out is discomforting. He will definitely be out for some games at the least to recuperate. These kinds of injuries often mean that the player will be out for the rest of the season so that door is not closed. Ruff has to tell sooner or later what the extent is. For now, patience is the thing.
