Dana Jacobson's 'F Touchdown Jesus, F Notre Dame' Comments No More Ridiculous Than Catholic League's Response

As you surely know by know ESPN First Take's Dana Jacobson got all kinds of belligerently drunk at the Mike & Mike Roast, swilling vodka, and spraying numerous profanities. So basically, she was acting like a lot of people at roasts. Unfortunately for her, she's a daily TV personality (even if no one watches) for the World Wide Leader in media scrutiny.

Jacobson apparently rattled off something to effect of "F--- Touchdown Jesus" and "F--- Notre Dame." Basically, common remarks by all sports fans on fall Saturdays.

Naturally, the Catholic League President Bill Donahue was made aware of these comments - that have very little to do with him - and pressed ESPN. Jacobson made the following, and appropriate statement:
"My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words."
For those that may be unaware, Dana is a Michigan grad. If you've even attended a Wolverine-Irish football game, F--- Notre Dame would be considered very light trash talk. It's blatantly obvious, regardless of how stupid, that she joking around with Mike Golic (ND grad) considering he was the one to be roasted. This was not a roast of the Catholic church.

Donahue's response is profoundly ridiculous:
"It is obvious, then, that neither Jacobson nor ESPN is dealing with this matter in a professional way. To put this issue behind them, ESPN must deal with this issue quickly, publicly and fairly, something it has yet to do. After all, most Christians are yet unaware of this event, but once they learn of it, they are sure to demand accountability."
Hopefully the Catholic League will be satisfied to know that Jacobson has been 'benched' for this week as punishment. Probably a good idea, regardless, because judging by reports she might still be drunk.

The only real disgrace here is that there's still no video available.

F--- Bill Donahue

Speaking of demanding accountability...

Things like this make it harder for level headed Christians to keep a good name... granted level headed African Americans have to deal with that and Jesse Jackson... and level headed Muslims have to deal with that and the extremist leaders in the Middle East and so on.... why is it so hard to use common sense?

Did she say anything at all about Christians? She slandered a school and a mural. Does this mean I can't say "F--k Purple Jesus" whenever Adrian Peterson lights up the Bears for 225 yards???

Bill Donahue = Giant D-Bag. That's the clean version of what I'm thinking right now.

If this had been a slanderous statement against Muslims (or a Muslim college and/or icon, if any exist), you can be d*mn sure that heads would have rolled (both literally and figuratively).  I guess that's because no Christian is going to declare a holy war on ESPN for her saying this stuff.

People (sober or drunk) need to be more sensitive to other's religious beliefs, regardless of the religion and regardless of whether or not they agree with them.

I'm sure everyone on here has something much worse than that.  The only difference is we aren't on TV so people don't get all worked up and take it out of context.   She didn't say F Catholics did she?

I don't see how her remarks deal with religion, catholics, or Christians. This is stupid. It does make me wonder that if Mike Golic would have responded with F the Wolverines if PETA would have been after him?

"F---" and Jesus don't belong in the same sentence period.  I was under the impression that she didn't stop at "F--- touchdown Jesus" but said "F--- Jesus" as well.  I didn't hear her personally so I don't know.  I don't care how you feel about Jesus or Christians, it's all about being respectful about people's beliefs.  I have no issue w/ "f--- Notre Dame."

Just a warning to anyone who is trying to view that, when I went to the site it wanted to download a program that I believe was a video player, but you can never be too sure. Be careful.

Don't click it. I think it might be spam/spyware since you have to download something to view it.

That was the greatest succession of posts I have ever seen. Of course I am referring to, "Oh snap!", "Word", "Oh no you didn't!".

Has anyone ever seen a roast? Know what roasts are about? She said F--- Touchdown Jesus, which we all know to be a ND mantra, she said F--- Notre Dame which is a reference to the school again. At what point did she attack Christians, the catholic church or anything of the like. If her comment about touchdown Jesus was inappropriate, then isn't it just as inappropriate to use it when not referring to religion specifically. Because again I was under the impression that was a direct reference to ND football, not Catholicism nor Christianity as a whole. I see why in the days of Dean Martin and the boys "roasts were held in private."

People in general are all way to sensitive.  I happen to be Catholic, Irish, and a fan of Notre Dame.  The difference is I am also tolerant.

Same here. And I think Mike and Mike suck, even if he did go to ND

She's actually quite self deprecating on her show and in other radio appearances and often jokes about her appearance. Not sure where your angle is coming from.

No sports radio show gets more listeners than Mike & Mike ... if that's what you mean by terrible. I like to rip ESPN and their personalities as much as the next guy, but I think your a bit off here.

I think Dana Jacobson has been watching too much of the Comedy Central roasts on late night TV...Her attempt at humor should be left to the professionals. What hasn't been said is if her remarks were the theme of the night made by other roasters.

Ummm...did she say anything important? No?  That is why its making such a fuss.

F--- It!  Drop the whole dumb subject.

i watch their show in the morning as i get dressed for work or school. They aren't awful or good. Mike and Mike lie in the realm of blissful mediocrity and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm glad they aren't like the other radio stations plus all i really care about is the information. ESPN can always be trusted when it comes to facts and stats.

As for Dana, she's not the hottest but she has a good sounding voice and i would rather look at her than at Skip Bayless any day.

People are too sensitive... she was drunk... i've done stuff way more stupid than what she did and im only 21... there are still more embarrassing things ahead for me.

Wonder if there'd be more of an outcry, if she said, F---ing Mohammed.

The ACLU would probably be involved then.

Strange, ain't it? Anti-Christian-Liberal-Union.
Or for a better example...if you make an offensive cartoon, they burn the embassies down, and demand the editor's head....if Iran makes offensive cartoons, the Israelis simply condemn the act.
Hmm, which religion is more prone to violent acts?
Not really much of a comparison.
