As you surely know by know ESPN First Take's Dana Jacobson got all kinds of belligerently drunk at the Mike & Mike Roast, swilling vodka, and spraying numerous profanities. So basically, she was acting like a lot of people at roasts. Unfortunately for her, she's a daily TV personality (even if no one watches) for the World Wide Leader in media scrutiny.
Jacobson apparently rattled off something to effect of "F--- Touchdown Jesus" and "F--- Notre Dame." Basically, common remarks by all sports fans on fall Saturdays.
Naturally, the Catholic League President Bill Donahue was made aware of these comments - that have very little to do with him - and pressed ESPN. Jacobson made the following, and appropriate statement:
"My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words."For those that may be unaware, Dana is a Michigan grad. If you've even attended a Wolverine-Irish football game, F--- Notre Dame would be considered very light trash talk. It's blatantly obvious, regardless of how stupid, that she joking around with Mike Golic (ND grad) considering he was the one to be roasted. This was not a roast of the Catholic church.
Donahue's response is profoundly ridiculous:
"It is obvious, then, that neither Jacobson nor ESPN is dealing with this matter in a professional way. To put this issue behind them, ESPN must deal with this issue quickly, publicly and fairly, something it has yet to do. After all, most Christians are yet unaware of this event, but once they learn of it, they are sure to demand accountability."Hopefully the Catholic League will be satisfied to know that Jacobson has been 'benched' for this week as punishment. Probably a good idea, regardless, because judging by reports she might still be drunk.
The only real disgrace here is that there's still no video available.
