Dani Alves claims Barcelona deserved to win over Paris Saint-Germain at Parc de Princes on Tuesday. The Brazil international believes his side was the better side in the night, a night of amazing football which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Results from Barcelona’s away games in Europe haven’t been so bright this season. The 29-year-old Barcelona full-back reminded about his side’s 2-0 defeat to AC Milan at San Siro to suggest that the Catalans had improved in their away form.
“I am happy enough with the result, although I agree that the game left a bitter-sweet taste, because it could have been better,” Dani Alves said.
“We are very happy with how we played, how we competed. It was much better than the previous round. There was a great game where we played the better football, but in the end that is what the Champions League has.”
With Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano ruled out second-leg from the Champions League quarterfinal next week, Dani Alves claims other players from the Barcelona team will have to step up at Nou Camp.
“It was a fright, but it could have been worse,” Dani Alves admitted. “We can compete without him if he is not there. For us, too, it is a challenge. I do not doubt my team-mates. I know we can do it with him or without him.”
Barcelona will be short on center backs since Javier Mascherano picked up knee injury against Paris Saint-Germain and Carlos Puyol has been on the injury list since he went under the knife for his knee.
Dani Alves claims he would happy to play as a center-half if Barcelona needs him. The full-back said he was prepared to adapt according to the needs of his club.
“I have already played as a centre-half with Guardiola, when we played with a three-man defence,” Dani Alves said. “I will try and adapt to whatever I am asked to do. I will be here for what the coaches want me to do.”
Barcelona have the edge over Paris Saint-Germain at Nou Camp since they have scored two away goals. The second-leg of the Champions League quarterfinal between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain is scheduled for April 10.
