Blog Photo - Danica Patrick is your Pole Sitter for the Daytona 500It appeared it would be an all Stewart Haas Racing front row, but as qualifying progressed, only two drivers had enough to defeat Tony Stewart and Ryan Newman, but not enough to out-qualify Danica.

She accomplished what no other woman has been able to do in NASCAR's Premiere Division.

First Pole Position for a woman in the Daytona 500

First Pole Position for a woman in any NASCAR Sprint Cup Race

Danica will start on the pole for the first Dual on Thursday, with Jeff Gordon starting on the pole for the second race.

The Daytona 500 will be her 11th start in Sprint Cup.

Continuing the female bent of the racing day, Courtney Force won in Funny Car today at the Winternationals.

Haven't seen it on TV, but it was tweeted :)  Love Courtney!!

Even as all this was happening, I was "watching" the first NHRA meet of the season.  Antron Brown had a huge, fiery crash that destroyed his top fuel dragster, yet the compartment that contained Antron did its job and he walked away.

Yeah, I saw Jenna Fryer tweet that. Unbelievable and luckily Antron walked away.

Well I've never been to a NASCAR race (perhaps the reason you felt I wasn't a door handle to door handle race fan?) but I go to our local track religiously, and I watch every possible race I can on TV.  I read the interwebs, watch the videos, soak up anything I can.  Perhaps it is just in my blood.  I don't anything could make me not be a fan, to be honest. no matter how much they change the cars, the tracks or any other part of the sport.

I agree. As much as I complain about all the changes. I will forever be a race fan.

Oh I disagree with "nothing to bring you back" as you are still watching, aren't you?  you wouldn't be commenting here if you weren't watching just as much as the rest of us are. :)

The ads (showroom) the car branding, the way they are approaching the racing has all changed.  I do believe they are trying to bring in new fans and make the old fans happy.  As an old fan, I'm very happy (well except for DP being shoved down my throat) with the way the sport is going.  I hated the COT.  It's great to see the Chevy I love and can recognize on the track.  I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has to offer.

I agree with the safe car.. but they missed the point with what the many dedicated fans wanted... they made a template and did not acknowledge the error...They have ticket ads if the 500 and Bristol on today.. they tossed many of the fans away,,, their still is nothing to bring us back...

The thing is, I think NASCAR was trying to do a good thing by making the car safer.  After all, they lost the sport's biggest star in 2001.  They didn't want that happening again.  Unfortunately, they ended up with a square safe box that operated like a tank.  Was the COT a mistake?? I don't know, but it was necessary, I think.  They envision this car being the best of both worlds.
