Thursday evening against the Dallas Mavericks, forward Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets, landed awkwardly on his left leg in the second quarter and would not return.
"The doctor indicated that the ligament was loose," one source told Yahoo! Sports. "They expect that it's a torn ACL."
Gallinari is scheduled for a MRI on Friday to get a full diagnosis of his left knee, however, judging by the way that Gallinari fell to the floor, he will likely miss the remainder of the season and post-season.
This is a crushing blow for the run-n-gun Denver Nuggets. Skeptics doubt whether the Nuggets can maintain this sort of fast paced offense during the slower paced playoffs and Danilo’s outside shooting would have remedied any half-court lulls that the Nuggets would have faced. Head Coach George Karl will now have to look somewhere else for that consistent outside shooting for a team that relies heavily on turnovers and fast break points.
