Danny Ainge admits to discussing Kevin Garnett to Boston trade with Timberwolves
Wouldn't you love to hear a personnel discussion between Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge? You've already seen the movie, Dumb and Dumber.

The hot rumor of the this pre-draft period is clearly is a deal that would send Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics, in exchange for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and the 5th pick.

This is like one of those deals in your fantasy sports league where the dumbass in last place tries to talk you into trading your star for 6 below average players. It all makes sense to him, even though you have no room for half of them.

As you might imagine, the deal is nowhere close to being a reality, but the fact they are talking remains an intriguing story. Would you pull the trigger on this deal from Kevin McHale's perspective?

Jefferson seems to be pretty talented by all accounts, Green has potential, and the #5 pick should be someone pretty good.  Unless Telfair/Ratliff have to be in the deal for salary purposes, I'd say ask for next years 1st rounder and call it a day.  They don't seem to be able to build around Garnett in Minnesota, maybe it's time to blow the whole thing up.

I'd like to see KG move to the East coast, I think on the right team he can putcontend for a title. He'd look good in Chicago, Detriot, Orlando, Boston, NY or NJ IMO. I just don't think half of those teams can really afford what they'd likely have to give up to get him.

I like the dumb and dumber analogy.  Two GM's clinging desperately to their jobs.   Heck, neither one has anything to lose because both are gone unless a miracle happens.

If it does go through, I'm not sure it gets KG any closer to a title although Pierce and KG instantly vault to the one of the top duos in the league (Nash/ Stoudemire, Yao/ McGrady, Anthony/ Iverson, etc...)

I totally can't see even Kevin McHale falling for this--but then, look at some of the other things he's done as the Wolves' GM!!

If he wants to contend then he needs to go to either Detroit or Chicago. The other teams are just now trying to rebuild and let's face it, KG is not young anymore. He needs some team that will be able to work with him NOW. Not build around him to be a contender 5 years from now. Personally I think Detroit is going to do some major rebuilding since they aren't the team that they need to be. Maybe a trade for KG would be good for them.

Maybe KG alongside Pierce would be able to accomplish something (assuming he stays healthy)! What do either of these teams have to lose anyways? Not sure that they can get any worse.

They have nothing to lose. For KG at least it gives him an easier chance to make the playoffs and anyhting could happen then. As far as the splinter pups I mean tmiberwolves are concerned they are at least 4 or 5 years away from the smell of the playoffs. I would say the move could save Mchales job except the fact he couldn't do any worse.

Agreed. I don't think you could hurt either team by making a trade like that. Ofcourse the Timberwolves would be giving up KG for a bunch of mediocre guys but I personally think Green would be a very good player, I just think he needs to find the right team to mesh with. Obviously the Celtics aren't it.

I think I would pull the strings on this deal and hope for the best. The T-wolves just really need to rebuild and I believe that means that KG is out. Who knows, maybe it would work out well for both teams. And like Beautofa said, if they would end up getting the #5 pick then they could get a pretty good player to possibly build around. Either way, both of these teams need to do something.

For the Celts already having an all star in Pierce bringing KG would be great, of course they would probably have no bench so health then would also become an issue. The one thing that worries me as a fan of KG is that Pierce would end up hurt and he end up back in the same situation he's in now. I'd actually rather see him in Cleveland myself and I would pretty much trade anyone except Lebron.

Anything that puts him in the Eastern Conference gets him closer to a title almost by default.  Just the fact that he doesn't have to go through San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, Utah, Houston (and you could maybe throw Golden State and even the Lakers in there) to get to the playoffs and towards the conference finals makes it an easier road.

I agree that Cleveland could trade anyone except Lebron to get KG. Unfortunately though, I don't think the franchise will realize that they need to make changes. I can see them blaming the Finals on inexperience. I would love to see KG and Lebron play together though!

Unfortunately KG would have to go to Boston knowing that he could be the go to guy still. Maybe having that one-two punch is what the Celtics would need to ignite the other players. Maybe they just need a taste of winning that KG could provide them with. I like the Celtics/T-wolves trade.

If we're talking personal opinion, I would love to see him go to Detroit! Not sure what they would have to give up for him and whether they would be willing to give it up. But that would be his chance for a championship right there!

Minnesota would be getting a lot in return for KG if this trade goes through. heck it's a lot more then the 76ers got for Iverson. Green could be a future star. Jefferson is a solid player and another potential future star. the 5th pick if used wisely will bring in another solid player and potential future star/solid player. and telfair if minnesota adapts an uptempo/fast break game much like the suns, will thrive. and ratliff will be a decent defensive presense off the bench and a good veteran presense in the locker room. add these players to the talent minnesota already has and in a few years they may be a solid team. and the celtics would have one hell of a tandem in pierce and garnett. they would be instant contenders in a weak eastern conference. and basketball would again thrive in boston... at least until garnett and pierce's skills diminished as they got older.

Obviously there'd have to be some convincing of Milwaukee and Washington, and theres not a chance in hell it'll happen, but wouldn't it be fun?

I have mixed feelings about this proposal. As much as it might be great to see KG wearing green, that's a LOT to give up. The Celtics might improve for the next 2-3 years, but still not enough for a title, and they would be completely throwing away their future.

Yeah I kind of agree. They would definately have to bring up and coming players in around KG so that these young players could learn from him while he was there. I still think a combo of Pierce and KG would be good for the team and possibly for the players that they have around them. That's a good veteran combo to learn from!

But I definately see why you would question that trade!

This really doesnt improve Garnetts playing atmosphere. The Celtics arent any better than the Timberwolves, I think that at Garnetts age he would probably like to go somewhere where he has a chance to win.

I definitely would be looking somewhere else, if I were apart of the Timberwolves staff! Celtices are just throwing players at the Timberwolves left and right.
