Early candidate for Idiot of the Year: Danny Trevathan
We've seen this before, from DeSean Jackson and Trindon Holliday. Now, Danny Trevathan is the latest idiot to drop the ball before reaching the end zone.
I'll never understand this. There are other bonehead plays that I can at least comprehend. When players get emotional and fight other players, or when they commit egregious penalties, I at least understand why they did it. But this... it just makes no sense to me.
Why the hell are some guys (Trevathan, in this case) in such a hurry to get rid of the damn ball? Is there an award for the guy who gets rid of the ball as soon as possible after a TD? Is there some sort of radioactive substance on the ball? What does one stand to gain by dropping the ball immediately?
The answer, of course, is nothing. There is no point whatsoever in dropping the ball immediately after you cross the goal line. And of course, there's REALLY no point in dropping it before that.
Don't be an idiot, guys. Don't do this.
