The two biggest plays of the Red Sox win over Los Angeles happened during a Manny Ramirez at-bat. There was, of course, the walk-off 3-run homer but that might have been trumped by "The Anti-Bartman."
Meet Danny Vinik who fairly took a foul ball from Angels catcher Jeff Mathis keeping alive a Manny Ramirez at bat. Ramirez would walk, and then Mike Lowell sacrificed in a run to tie the game at 3-3.
"I still can't believe it," the young Vinik said before assuring a reporter it was the best catch of his career. "It was unbelievable. Just seeing it up there, sticking my hand out there, and it just landed in my hand. I don't remember really what happened. Just unbelievable, amazing."
An unsuspecting hero in Boston. I guess this is why the Red Sox have a championship to speak for this decade and another is working on a century without one.
