I know this story has been all over the Web today, but it's more than worth posting on. It seems that Darrell Arthur - who dropped like a rock during the NBA Draft - and his fellow Kansas teammate Mario Chalmers, decided that the best thing to do during the NBA Rookie Camp, which specifically implores you not to do drugs and hang out with loose women, were caught with precisely those two things Wednesday morning - in their hotel room.
On a 1 to 10 scale of stupidity, this is about a 98.
I mean, I'm not really bent out of shape about them actually smoking weed, that's not that big a deal. What is a big deal though is doing that at precisely the same time you're being told not to do it. I mean, couldn't they have waited until Rookie Camp was over? It hardly takes a brain surgeon to logically come to that conclusion.
What may be the funniest thing about this is that both were sent home for their actions. Although wouldn't it actually be better if they stuck around at camp? I can only imagine what these guys are doing when they're NOT being told to smoke weed and hook up with women.
What's unfortunate about all of this is that it continues to show that in many cases, as soon as you put money in an athlete's hands, they're liable to do anything and refuse to learn anything from the past. No one thinks about guys like Josh Hamilton, Chris Anderson, Shawn Kemp, and other guys who watched their careers get completely ruined or partly derailed for a time period by drugs or making dumb decisions with women.
But hey, why am I complaining? It's guys like Arthur and Chalmers that keep me employed. Keep toking boys!
