But following was a new development in the case, Daryl Washington was arrested by the Phoenix police on Friday.
Daryl Washington was booked into jail on two counts of aggravated assault, according to Maricopa County court records. Maricopa County prosecutors said that Daryl Washington’s bail was set at $4,200 following which he was released from police custody at around 12:45 p.m. local time.
The incident reports released by the Phoenix police state that Daryl Washington’s ex-girlfriend called the police with the complaint that she had been assaulted inside her apartment on Wednesday. She claimed that Daryl Washington chocked her and shoved her to the ground during an argument. The woman also told the police that Daryl Washington pushed her with both of hands, causing her to fall back and break her right collarbone, according to court documents.
The police interviewing the women noted marks on her throat, “road-rash type of scrapes, bruising and cuts to her right arm, right hip and right leg” as well as the clavicle injury obtained during the fall.
Daryl Washington at the apartment to visit his 5-month-old daughter, when an argument with his ex-girlfriend turned violent, court documents stated.
The 26-year-old Daryl Washington is scheduled to appear in court on May 9 for a status conference with a preliminary hearing later on May 13.
The Arizona Cardinals released a brief statement regarding the domestic assault accusation against Daryl Washington on Wednesday.
“These are serious accusations that we are closely monitoring,” read the statement. “Until all the facts are determined and out of respect to the process, we will decline any further comment at this point."
Its proving to be a disastrous offseason for Daryl Washington, who led the Arizona Cardinals with 134 tackles and nine sacks out of the inside linebacker position last season, to finish with a second-team All-Pro selection. Moreover, it’s only been a month since NFL announced Daryl Washington’s suspension for the first four games of the 2013 season, due to violations of the league’s substance-abuse policy. It’s possible the league could further discipline Daryl Washington for his recent arrest.
With chances of further trouble brewing and impeding distractions, the new Arizona Cardinals head coach and leadership could deal with Daryl Washington’s arrest seriously as well. The former undrafted free agent Daryl Washington, who is entering his fourth season with the Arizona Cardinals, signed a four-year, 32.5 million contract extension with the team last September. Daryl Washington’s offseason activities could play out a major part in whether he gets the $10 million roster bonus he is due next offseason.  And if Daryl Washington’s current actions prove to be distortion on field in the 2013 season, the Arizona Cardinals could cut ties with him or force him into restructuring the original contract.
