I think Matt Cassel is going to work out just fine for the Patriots, but let's just say his body isn't ready for the wear and tear of a full NFL season. It's hardly a far fetched scenario, seeing as how he hardly even played in college. As Pat pointed out earlier, Cassel only threw 33 total passes at USC in four years. Aside from a few preseason games, Cassel hasn't taken a big hit from a starting NFL defensive end or linebacker.
I'm sure this isn't news to Bill Belichick who's carifully consider his Plan B options this week. Chris Simms and Tim Rattay weren't good enough for him, so for the time being Cassel's backup is rookie Kevin O'Connell from San Diego State. Everyone is high on his future, but it's doubtful he can come in now and move the football consistently.
So who else is out there? Well, how about teaming Randy Moss back up with Daunte Culpepper? We know he's not doing anything right now and is as capable as anyone to heave the ball downfield to #81.
Adam Shefter heard what Belichick had to say the other day and believes he'd entertain the idea if Randy Moss recommended Culpepper.
“Sure, absolutely,” Belichick said in a conference call on Tuesday. “I think if someone has good working knowledge of the situation, of course we would talk to him and take that into consideration. I don’t think any player is going to head up our personnel department, I don’t mean it that way. But, would we take any source of information and take it into consideration? Of course we would.”
What you do you think? Would you give Culpepper a call?
