David Beckham LA Galaxy Debut (Maybe) Live Thread
READ MORE:

I'm a little late to the party, but I had to admit Mr. Beckham has drawn me in. LA Galaxy vs Chelsea is my tube, and Beckham isn't even playing.

Entertaining match thus far actually. Plus, the breakaways to Posh and Eva Longoria chatting it up with champagne is always intriguing. That's a hell of a conversation I'm sure.

So here you go, if you're watching feel free to chat along without or without #23.

I wasn't sure if anyone else was around. I'm watching too. It's like MLS meets Access Hollywood.

I hope he does get in at some point. I'm sure he will, even if he just plays 20 minutes.

It's a shame that Beckham is not in right now for this free kick.

Someone help me out with the talent discrepancy between these two teams. Is is a Major conference college team against mid major ... or more severe like D1 vs DIAA.

Since it's an exhibition, it's hard to tell.

As far as what we have seen in this match, I'd go with major conference vs. mid major. If there was more of a talent discrepancy, you'd see the Galaxy down 3-0 right now. At the same time though, if this match actually meant something to Chelsea, you might see that same score.

This has been one of the debates of just how good MLS teams are. I think the consensus is that they are generally equal to the Championship, which is the level below the English Premiership. The top teams could maybe be at the lowest ranks of the Premiership.

I've just always figured that in Soccer it's not always obvious with the score. In (american) football the weaker team just gets run off the field 52-7. But in soccer the same discrepancy can appears 1-0 based on a few missed shots, etc.

This could sound incredibly dumb.

You're right. At the same time, since all it takes is one good chance, even a team that isn't as good can still come out with the victory. That's one of the things I like about soccer. A match may seem like it is uneven, but goals come against the run of play all the time. The counterattack is a beautiful thing.

nope doesnt sound dumb. ive played in a few soccer games in which we were big underdogs but only losing 1 or 2 nothing. playing awful and losing 1-0 can be just as misleading as playing great but losing 3-0.

espn just showed the boots beckham has on...how much u guys think their gonna go for on ebay

One thing to keep in mind with this game is that for some of the lesser Galaxy players, this is the biggest game they have ever played in (at least as far as the attention on it). Some of them look pretty uneasy out there. Not only is everyone watching Beckham, they are playing against one of the top teams in the world. So when you mentioned the comparison to Chelsea being a major conference team, think more like they are USC or Florida.

I guarantee that if a Chelsea player so much as breathes on a Galaxy player anywhere near a position where Beckham could put a free kick near the goal, a foul is going to be called.

i wasnt sure if i was going to watch it either. im not a beckham fan, i dont like him and i think hes overrated overall but i respect what he does. no one else i want taking a free kick 35 yards out except him.
