Manchester City has offered David Silva a lucrative new contract which will ensure the Spanish international stays at the Eastlands for the next 4 years. Media reports have confirmed that 26-year-old attacking midfielder will be offered a salary of £200,000 per week. This makes Silva the fourth player in City squad to break the £200,000-a-week barrier.
Silva has now joined Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez as one of the highest earners in the Manchester club. City was expected to offer Silva a contract extension before Silva runs off to prepare with Spanish national team for Euro 2012 at the end of the season.
In the 2010-11 season Manchester City purchased Silva from Valencia for £30 million. Originally, Silva inked a four-year contract which is due to expire in 2014 but if Silva and City agree to the new contract Silva will stay at Manchester till 2016.
Silva has evolved into one of the best attacking midfielders in the world with Manchester City. His performance in the English Premier League has been outstanding. If Manchester City manages to win the Premiership this season, Silva will be the keystone of their achievement.
Manager Roberto Mancini often heaps tons of praise on the prodigal Spaniard. Mancini knows that Silva has been key element for Manchester City’s success this season. This is why Mancini played a key role in getting Silva a healthy increment from £140,000.
Just a couple of days ago, Silva stated that he was happy to play for Valencia but he has now settled down quite nicely into England. Silva also said that he was happy to play for Manchester City and hoped to achieve success with them in the future. Therefore, Silva’s statements had already given away that he was about to ink a contract extension.
Presently, Silva is one of the frontrunners to win the PFA player of the year award. Silva has 19 goals and assists under his belt for this season. He is in competition with Aguero, Robin van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor and Wayne Rooney.
Earlier in the week, Silva spoke about his stay in England and the role he had played for Manchester City.
“I am very happy in England, I have two years left on my contract and I want to see it out,” Silva said.
“Right now, I do not want to return [to Spain], I am enjoying life in England, people treat me wonderfully and I want to continue enjoying this.

“Mancini has complete trust in me, which is very important for a player and I am very happy. My team-mates are adapting well to my game and that is very good for me.”
