Juan Pablo Montoya was moving quickly around the track to catch up to the pack, all while the jet dryers were on the track. Suddenly, something broke on the car, and he slammed into the driver's side door. His car had sparks underneath and as his car ruptured the jet fuel holding tank, both vehicles exploded. The next thing we saw, JPM was wandering around in the grass outside of his completely destroyed car, and there was a huge fireball where the back of the jet dryer once was.

The race is currently under a red flag while they remove the safety truck with a crane, as they don't want to take any chances on destroying any more of the track.
Here's a video.
The rest of the race will get underway, once the track is deemed safe.

Yeah, Eric, exactly as Scott said. If it wasn't for bad luck, Juan would have none

Relax Eric. Even the most novice follower of the sport can see that this was just an unlucky and unfortunate accident. All I was implying is out of all the drivers, it doesn't surprise me one bit that Montoya was involved. The guy has had more bad luck then good since he came to Nascar

Again, it's not like he tried it. Something broke at the absolute unluckiest time.

If I hadn't seen it, and someone told me "one of the drivers hit a jet dryer!" I would have said "Oh no, is Juan okay?"
Joke of the day: How many NASCAR drivers does it take to set fire to a Jet Dryer?
Just juan.

As serious as this whole thing was, is anybody not the least bit surprised Montoya was involved in this?

Driver of the Jet Dryer truck, a safety worker from Michigan International Raceway, was treated and released from local hospital. He has thanked everyone for their wishes and concerns.

The picture on the BoW page was tweeted by Brad Keselowski. He had his phone in his pocket, took the picture and tweeted it.

The driver of the jet dryer has been taken to hospital for further evaluation. His truck has none of the safety features that the cars do.
