Since my knowledge of NASCAR has been well documented I'm not going to embarrass myself by attempting to provide any sort of pre-race analysis.

Why I do know if that Dale Earnhardt Jr. is doing pretty well with his new team and is looking for making it a clean sweep today at Daytona.

So here you go, boogity boogity boogity, feel free to chat it up.

According to my math Jr has a 1 in 43 chance of winning, so I'm against him getting the sweep.

 

My pick is Kyle Busch, with Casey Mears as my "darkhorse".

As long as Earnhardt Jr. is still running at the end, I would be surprised not to see him win the race.  The Toyotas could surprise some people today too.

I love Casey, so I'd be pumped.  He's got the talent, he's just never been with a team for long enough to ever develop any chemistry or momentum.  At least thats what my too-homer-to-acknowledge-the-fact-that-he's-struggled-for-a-good-amount-of-his-career-side says.

No one has ever gone 3 for 3. Everytime someone has won the Bud Shootout and the qualifier, they have failed to win the main race. That includes Jr. who has done this before.

Curt Cavin of the Indy Star called the race "a four-hour commercial with some good racing thrown in at the end." Sounds about right. Pass.

Sorry, I have to defend Cavin here. Very few sportswriters are willing to answer questions from fans just about every day, especially about a sport as "niche" as open wheel racing. Plus, do you really disagree with that statement? I was mindlessly flipping through the channels, and the race was on lap 5. Didn't coverage start at 2? This thing is getting near Super Bowl levels of hype.

Its almost always been that way. For as long as I can remember the Daytona 500 got like two hours of pre-race coverage. Not to mention that it IS Nascar's Super Bowl. So no, I don't agree with that statement.

If NASCAR was smart, they'd take a page from the IRL's book and do PIP during commercials.

Takes away from ad money.  NASCAR is doing well enough that they don't have to do that.  No sport would do that in their idea situations.
