DeSean Jackson Drops Football At 1-Yard Line While Celebrating Touchdown That Never Was
Bonehead Play of the Short NFL Season

DeSean Jackson's just lucky he wasn't in Philadelphia tonight.

In the echelon of dumbest look-at-me-I'm-awesome moves in NFL history, and there have been a lot, this will rank right up there. After showing some impressive speed and beating the Cowboys secondary deep, Donovan McNabb hit Jackson in stride at the 10-yard line for what was going to be a 61-yard touchdown. Instead it was just a 60-yard catch.

You see, Jackson was impressed with himself and wanted to drop the ball as soon as he crossed the goal line... except, he didn't cross the goal line.

Unfortunately, the side judge likely wasn't down field far enough to have the appropriate angle, or was simply so dumbfounded and assumed no one was that stupid, so they play was ruled a touchdown on the field. Replay showed he was at the 1-yard line. Brian Westbrook went in for the subsequent score, ensuring Jackson can come back on the team flight.

Now that's the ironic part. Remember last year when the Eagles visited Dallas and Westbrook slid at the 1-yard line to end the game. I suppose this makes up for that... if only Westbrook owners a year ago kept their man.

Mr. Irrelevant has a good screen grab of the sideline angle:

As you can imagine, the MNF booth talked a great deal about this play and shared that DeSean Jackson has actually done something even dumber in his history, but it just wasn't on this big of a stage. In a high school all-star game, as he was going in for a score he tried a swan dive from the 5-yard line and ended up a yard short of the goal line.

Dumbass.

That is the bonehead play of the decade.    haha  Tony Kornhole should stick to PTI.    I cannot stand him as an announcer.

As someone who started DeSean Jackson this week on four of his fantasy teams, if I lose by 5 points or less...

I felt that way about Westbrook last year.

I think I am playing you in our league this week so you might have got lucky and stole a victory.

I'm just glad that tomorrow everyone will be talking about this arrogant baller and not one of T.O.'s antics.

And I also had him starting in 2 of my three leagues, but fortunatley for me some other ballers like Anquan Boldin and T.O. covered his "dumbass".

I can't tell you how many times I've watched games where guys drop the ball literally an inch after they cross the goalline. This was bound to eventually happen.

And, as a guy who enjoyed watching DeSean at Cal, I have to at least defend him. This isn't the dumbest play ever because 1) the Cowboys didn't bother to recover the ball 2) Westbrook scored the next play so it didn't hurt the Eagles.

Dumb? Oh yes. Dumbest ever. No, since it didn't cost his team the game.

I agree that the Cowboys not recovering the ball was a missed opportunity on their part, but not necessarily dumb.  I think they, like everyone else, were dumbstruck by what happened.    And fortunately for DeSean, the lack of awareness, allowed the Eagles to get the ball back and score.   No harm, no foul except to his ego.

I like DeSean or I wouldn't have him on all three of my teams, and he was awesome at Cal, but it was an arrogant and foolish move by a rookie showboat.

Dumbest ever.....no way!

As a Brian Westbrook owner who was playing the guy who had both TO and Desean Jackson, I'm LOL'ing my way to a 2nd straight win.  Not bad for a guy who may have had the worse fantasy football draft ever.

Yah I have to agree with you on this I sat and watched as he crossed the line without the football in his hand, hahahaha

Karma, that is what this is. So appropriate for such an arrogant jacka$$ like Jackson to do something so infinitely stupid on MNF no less!!! Be ready for this ego, it is gonna be like T.O. and Chad Ocho Cinco all rolled into one and then inflated a little more. Can't wait for him to do something this ridiculous in Philly in front of the hometown fans! He will get tarred and feathered or worse...

Oh, don't get me wrong, he is a great player with loads of talent. He just needs to shelve that ego and be a little smarter and perhaps more humble. Take a lesson from LT.
