Flyers Strong In 6-3 Victory Over Caps.
The Flyers controlled the shots in this game, shooting 33 to the Capitals 19. They ended the first period strong to get their momentum. 4 goals were scored in the 1st period, all in the last four minutes. Daniel Briere scored for Philly, but Eric Fehr quickly matched for the Capitals. But Scott Hartnell and Sami Kapanen would score before the period was over to give them a 4-1 lead. The Capitals never really recovered, both teams scored once in the 2nd. A 3rd period goal by Brooks Laich goal put them within a goal, but Mike Richards scored on a penalty shot (Penalty Shot, that's obscure) and an empty net at the end gave Philly a 6-3 win. Daniel Briere had 2 goals and an assist, and Vaclav Prospal had 3 assists. The Flyers lead the series 2-1, with game 4 in Philly on Thursday.
Statistically, this was about as even of a game as you can get. 28 to 27 shots, even penalty minutes, near even faceoffs and hits as well. 20-year old Carey Price and veteran Tim Thomas both had fantastic games in net, but Montreal was able to get the one goal that was needed. Patrice Brisebois scored on a powerplay with less than a minute to go in the second period. With that, the Canadiens lead the series 3-1 and can end the series at home on Thursday in game 5.
Ducks Wake Up And Beat Stars In Dallas 4-2.
If you looked at the shots, you would've never guessed the Ducks won. They had only 15 shots, while the Stars had 33. The first period was huge for the Ducks, as they scored 3 goals. One by Todd Marchant, one by Ryan Getzlaf, and one by Chris Pronger. Pronger would score again in the second period on a powerplay, giving the Ducks a 4-0 lead after two. Brenden Morrow scored two powerplay goals in the 3rd period, but it wasn't enough, Pronger had 2 goals and an assist. Dallas still holds the series lead 2-1, with game 4 in Dallas.
8 misconduct penalties happened in this game, as both teams were pretty angry at each other. Colorado flattened them, dominating shots and faceoffs en route to a 5-1 win. Andrew Brunette, Wojtek Wolski and Tyler Arnason each scored in the first period. Ruslan Salei and Milan Hejduk each had powerplay goals in the 2nd to give Colorado a 5-0 lead. Koivu scored in the 3rd, but it didn't matter as the Avs won 5-1. 40 shots for Colorado, 25 for Minnesota. The series is now tied 2-2 with game 5 in Minnesota on Thursday.
San Jose had 32 shots to Calgary's 10, yet this game was very close. Jarome Iginla scored in the first to give the Flames a 1-0 lead. Ryane Clowe scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd to tie it, then Dion Phaneuf scored to give Calgary the lead again after two. In the 3rd, Jonathan Cheechoo tied the game with 5 minutes left. But with 10 seconds left, Joe Thornton scored the game winning goal to give the Sharks a 3-2 win. The series is now tied, game 5 is Thursday in San Jose.
