I know many of us Americans don't like soccer. It's either due the lack of scoring or the flopping or the foreignness, or all of it combined. And we also think our sports are superior, be that true or not. So whenever something goes wrong in soccer, we Americans use that opportunity to laugh at it and make fun it.Well, to all you soccer haters out there, that time is now.
Wednesday a soccer match in Brazil was suspended after lightning struck one of the players - proving once and for all that God is an American and hates soccer.
The lightning struck midfielder Gilvan near midfield in the in the 63rd minute of the Novo Horizonte-Atletico Goianiense match in the Goias state championship.
Gilvan immediately collapsed and was taken unconscious to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
"I woke up in the hospital," Gilvan said. "The pain was too strong. I'm relieved to have survived this."
The injury prompted the referee to suspend the match - probably a good call - which was finished Thursday and won by Atletico 4-2. The game was even at 2-2 when it was interrupted.
Just so you know, the lightning accused Gilvan of taking a dive.
